Abandoned sternwheelers?

Forgive me if this has been discussed before -- I didn't see anything on a search.

I've carried in my head for a while imagery from somewhere -- a book, or a movie, or something -- of old sternwheelers and paddlewheelers from the golden age of steamship travel rotting away in a swamp or on a lake in Louisiana, abandoned after they lost their usefulness. What I'm wondering is: Is there such a place, or is it pure fiction?

I've tried a Google search, and came up empty. I did find a steamboat graveyard in the Yukon, from the Gold Rush I believe. And I found mention of an area (I think on the upper Mississippi, around Cape Girardeau) where numerous steamboats met their end. But nothing about the pictures I have in my head.

So I'm turning to the experts from that area -- my fellow explorers. Is there anything like what I'm thinking about?

Sometimes the wrecked steam boats do make an appearence on the Mississippi River. But only when the water is very low. They are not in explorable condition. Most of them are just piles of rotting timber.
