Attention Drainers!

On July 28, 2005 in the City of Fort Worth, Texas, a plant handling solvent in large volumes, experience a catastrophic fire which consumed the entire plant.
Large quantities of water were used to cool tanks and protect exposures.
http://www.wbap.co...&PT=wbaptopstories

These solvents and chemicals were in liquid form, some extremely flammable. Some of these managed to enter the storm drains and ignited inside, underground.

I want to make Drainers aware of the possibility, even though quite remote of that happening when they are exploring. If you ever get even a hint of smoke, find the nearest exit point and GET OUT IMMEDIATELY!!

Just want to keep everyone advised so they stay safe!!

Looked like quite a blaze did you have to respond on that ?

I often wonder whats coming down stream when Im in storm drains we had an incident here many years ago where a big gasoline spill filled some storm drains and got ignited

(with the right concentration of gasoline vapors and o2 you could get blown out the tube like a BB out of a Daisy Red Rider!) ouch...

A similar bad situation for drainers happen in my city a while back. A tanker carrying gasoline punctured its tanks on a fence (can't remember exact story) while it was en-route to fill-up a gas station. As a result, a very large quantity of gasoline spilled into the network of storm drains. From what I have heard, the gasoline passed through one of "better" explorable drains in my area.

Thanks for the heads up. Luckily, I live in Dallas, not Fort Worth. Although I am going there next week, so I'll be sure to stay above ground. Damn.

Rest in Peace, Ninjalicious. I know that wherever you are, you're finding the best sites for us already.

I was actually looking for an online newspaper article that I could link to while writing that post, however I couldnt find any. I guess a link to that thread works just as good.
