ASU steam tunnels

I'm fairly new to the whole concept of steam tunnels, but extremely intrigued. The ones I have read about are all inaccessible to me, (distance.)

I instantly began to wonder if there were any steam tunnels under ASU. After searching I found:

  • A post by phantom:

"... I think the motion sensors me and Darkness tripped in the ASU steam tunnels ..."

ASU requires steam year round for domestic hot water use such as showers, autoclaves, swimming pool heating, and space heating during the heating season. Approximately 3.5 million therms of natural gas are consumed in the Central Plant boilers to produce steam, which is distributed in tunnels to campus buildings and facilities.

Now I KNOW that there are in fact steam tunnels under ASU and that people have explored them, but that is all the information I have been able to find.

Does anyone else have any information on them, know somewhere where I can find some?

Food for thaught,

Did you know that a leaky steam pipe, the stream of steam can cut you in half? And all you can do is hear the steam and not see it.

Indeed I did, (or at least I knew it could do very similar nasty things.)

Its crazy man. It can be a slight pinhole. How the folks check to see where the pipe is leaking they will take and rub a broom across the pipe. When the bristles fly off and are clean cut off, then they know they've found the leak. ha ha ha. funny but true.

Hey, I'm also interested in UEing. If there's anybody else around campus who is, I would gladly join them in any sort of expedition.

Also, has anyone ever thought about taking a look around the building they're constructing right outside the Computing Commons (the one by the bookstore)? For the past week, I've seen workmen with one of those fan and tube doo-hickeys they use to blow air down into subterreanean areas. Perhaps they are still in the process of connecting the tunnels with the rest of the system and have not yet installed any security precautions. I don't have any hard intelligence either way, I'm just suggesting that if you're over there keep an eye out.
