| | | Ryden - By a ear piece Javadog - depends on how you have them setup. Mostly no if you have them set right. Also let me explain cost effective. FRS: 60 dollars a set got 2mile range which couldnt push through paper 60 dollars 4 miles range 60 dollar 6 miles 80 dollars 10 mile. A hand full of spare ones because I broke them all averaging 25-80 per set. So lets say 200 more over 6 years. 460ish probably more Im being conservative All went ohhh 2 meters
3 sabers 75 each 225 programing cable and box 40 bucks and I found someone who would program them for free. You do the math Also quality range and durability is great. I hate motorola as a company but they are hard to beat.

| | | Posted by ems_ranger Well not true - check Motorola talkabout I think t4200's - they and cobra both have a single voice scramble feature. This is in addition to PL tones - either tone or digital. While it is not encryption, some models do offer this voice scramble feature. Check the motorola website for FRS. So the same model of radios w/scramble do offer some security from unsquelched FRS/GMRS &/or scanners listeners.

OK, I just checked the manuals for the talkabout 4xxx, 5xxx, and 7xxx lines. I also checked Cobra's model line. NONE mention this ability.[\b] I also checked the FRS and GMRS FCC licenses. They both say "All messages must be in plain language (without codes or hidden meanings). They may be in a foreign language, except for call signs (see Sec. 95.119)." And I can't find any clause in either license that would permit scrambling. So please back up your statements with evidence not vague references.

Goto Motorola website & compare FRS radios. Here is one link http://direct.moto...specs_T7200AA.asp? Country=USA&language=ENS&productid=29298 Also in comparison: http://direct.moto...woWay.asp?country= USA&language=ENS&productid=29298&cat=3&web_page_name=TWOWAYRADIOSCOMPAREPHONES they refer to it as "Easedrop reducer" Current Models with this feature are:T7100r, T7200aa & t7450r If you go to t7200 page & click manual you can download user manual: Link http://direct.moto...200AA.asp?Country= USA&language=ENS&productid=29298 On page 29 it says ...."Changing your Radio’s Settings \Setting Eavesdrop Reducer (T7200 Only) Your radio has the Eavesdrop Reducer feature, a scramble code that makes your transmissions sound garbled to anyone listening without the same Code. It doesn’t guarantee secrecy, but it adds an extra layer of privacy. Note: All the radios have to be set to the same Scramble Code for transmission to be clear.
It is NOT encryption it does garble or scramble the transmission enough to not be clearly heard. Found out about this at paintball game in Penn- a group had cobras - not sure on model- we could hear them but not understand them - don't remember model our squad got motorolas. If you have a radio & try each code you until you find right one can then hear. But it really is a cheap form of voice scramble.
