Surefire clone on sale

Just a heads up.

The Brinkmann Maxfire LX is currently on sale for USD$16.99 at Target stores. It's much like a Surefire G2, and you can drop in a Surefire P60 bulb or a Luxeon III LED module for a Surefire G2 if you're so inclined.

I picked one up, the batteries that came with it suck, but it's a farking bright light. Came with a belt holster that also fits my Dorcy 3AAA 1 watt Luxeon LED flashlight. If you get one, order a box of batteries from surefire.com - they're a hell of a lot cheaper in bulk.

Review at http://flashlightr...mann_maxfirelx.htm

<edit>Ironically, the holster it came with fits my Dorcy 3 AAA perfectly - but if you throw the Brinkmann in, you can barely close the velcro flap. wtf?

Yep, i picked one up and ended up giving it to friend who needed a light. The thing is fuckin awesome, definately worth it. And it is almost exactly the same as my surefire G2 i was amazed. the other good thing is it comes with the button switch instead of the twist cap one the surefire has.

So far I'm loving it - but the batteries that came with it are junk. I normally like Energizer, but they were giving a yellowish light straight out of the package.

I'm going to order a bunch of batteries from either surefire.com or batterystation.com pretty quick.

And agreed on the switch - I don't like the twist style on the G2.

Thats a very good deal. I have the metal version of the Legend LX it has a bigger reflector and a rubber grip sleeve. The switch is every bit as good as a Pelican M6 or a Surefire. I also have a G3 its a great little light for $30 the tailcap switch is momentary but you can twist it for continuos. No way to lock it out. These things get hot if you run them continuos. The Surefire has something the Brinkmann doesnt that I like the textured diffusing reflector but thats a small thing really.

I wonder why these dont show up on Brinkmanns page or their paper catalog? Academy sports sell lots of them and they keep them restocked but Brinkmann doesnt list any parts for them. I just got a new 12v Max Million and the new catalog that came with it still does not show these 3V Legends, they show some D C AA AAA aluminum MAGlite clones but thats it.

The Maxfire LX has the textured reflector, and in fact you can swap the entire lamp assembly with a Surefire P60 or P61 assembly, along with the G&P Luxeon III LED module (http://www.flashli...ews/gp_p60lux3.htm). The Legend is a different model entirely (though still a Xenon light). Can't use the Surefire parts in the Legend either.

That's very odd that Brinkmann doesn't list these though - in fact, I find it ironic seeing as the packaging for my Maxfire says to contact Brinkmann for replacement lamps. I'll probably wind up swapping in a Surefire P61 assembly whenever this one dies anyway, and I'll most likely grab a Luxeon module while I'm at it.

Sorry to revive an old thread, but..

I was back at Target today - apparently the $16.99 is a permanent price now. And the Maxfire now includes a vinyl or fake leather holster instead of the crappy cloth one (which really didn't fit the light at all). They also now include Sanyo/GE batteries instead of the Energizers, if you find the newer stock. Most of the overnight stockers are bad about rotating stock too, so it shouldn't be hard (I should know, I used to stock that department at Target).

Just out of curiosity, why wouldn't you just spend the extra $10 and get a real Surefire G2? Higher quality materials, lifetime warranty, more light... I think the advantages greatly outweigh the extra $10. Sure, you can use a P60 or P61 head on this cheaper light, but then you end up spending $17 for the light and then about $20 for the head... why not just spend $25 and buy a G2 off ebay?

Because this way I have it in my hands immediately =P Plus if I lose this one, I won't be as pissed off. There's also shipping time, shipping costs, etc.

This one is also rated at the same output as the G2.

Don't get me wrong, I'd love to have a Surefire, and will have one eventually. The Maxfire was more of an impulse buy for me when I saw it.

I realize it's not as solid, but I like the switch design on the Maxfire better anyway. Reviews of both of them places the light output nearly identical, battery life, etc.

I use this Brinkmann light as my "tunnel flooder" to shoot all the way to the "horizon line" of a tunnel ... among other uses but it does a great job ... the batts are expensive though, and I should buy a bulk package. ~Grit.

If you have a Fry's Electronics in your area, I've found that they have an off brand of batteries for $3.99 for a 2 pack (I don't remember the name though).

Other than that, surefire.com for boxes of 12, or batterystation.com for whatever quantity you want ($1.25 per battery, $6.95 shipping even for 40+ batteries). I've got a large order on the way from batterystation.com now.
