Headlamp

I want to buy a headlamp. I want something durable, but not necessarily indestructible. I want something pretty bright, but not a Surefire. It has to last at least 5 hours on a set of batteries or a charge. And it should be comfortable.

Any suggestions?

i bought one of those energizer led headlamps with the 1 red and 2 whites its not insanely bright but how bright do you really need it? Ive been using the same batteries for like a month or two now, using it like 2 times a week for most of the night theres alot of posts for this though

I use a Princeton Tec 1W LED headlamp its not as brite as a Surefire but its enough for most jobs. (does Surefire even make a headlamp)?

My Surfire tactical flashlight is great if they made a headlamp Im sure it would be good too but it wont run 5 hours. I get about 1 hour out of the Xenon tactical light.

I have that same light, my second of that type actually (seem to have lost the first one somewhere) and I think it's an awesome light. You can get around 50 hours on a set of batteries with it... Great light for the price ($20 with batteries at home depot in canada).

I use the Rayovac sort with the rotary control, has 2 Red LEDs 1 white LED and 1 "regular" krypton bulb that's focusable. It has been good thus far, it was cheap and they are easy to find. I'm not sure what the total run time on it is, but it probably is 5 hours...My only complaint is that it uses 3 AAA batt's and for some reason I prefer AA's, maybe because I usually have some with me. ~Grit.

Surefires are bitchin, my friend has a 6P. My only complaint is with the batteries, but it's awesomeness makes up for it's wastefulness.

Outdoor stores usually have a good selection of quality head lamps.

I have that one too. Great light for the price ($17 CDN at evil Wal Mart). I guess for the size they had to fit AAA's. When I have time i'm going to switch the 2 red and 1 white LED's to 1 red and 2 white, since the 2 reds are a bit bright.

I have the same headlamp and it's been very good to me. They fold up, so you can keep them in your pocket until you're actually in the tunnel. Keeps a lot of questions from rising up. I keep mine in the glovebox of my car. If a cop asks about them, I tell them it's in case my car breaks down at night. Works like a charm.

There's drop-in LED replacements for many Surefires - I know of a 3 watt Luxeon lamp module that replaces the P60 or P90 assembly (review at http://www.flashli...ews/gp_p60lux3.htm ). It also drops in to the Brinkmann Maxfire LX. I'm planning on picking up one of the Maxfires pretty soon - I can't afford a real Surefire.

Surefire also makes 2 LED replacements that I know of (KL1 and KL3 I think?), but of course they have a Surefire price tag.

(erg sorry I totally hijacked this thread, my bad)

I have a princeton tec that I got through REI online. It's a 1 watt LED using 2 AA batteries and 7-8 hours run time. Bright, and waterproof to 100 meters. All for less than $25.

My personal favorite headlamp:

Pelican HeadsUp 2630... 1W Luxeon LED, regulated output, three light levels, water resistant, accepts alkaline, lithium, or rechargable batteries.

I replaced the stock side-emitting 1W LED with a high-dome TWOJ-binned Luxeon III LED - it kicks much ass now. A big improvement over the PT Yukon HL I used to use.

i have a petzl tikka and i really like it
i bought it for camping and some caving i did and it was great
its not the brightest headlamp around but it definitely holds its own
it uses 3 AAA batteries, and apparently has 150 hours of battery life, i've had my batteries in for quite some time now and it haven't really seen any difference in brightness etc
for a stationary headlamp, its definitely worth the price, i think it comes to like 30 bucks or something
