Wow that rail bridge is great. Is that all wood? I've never seen anything like it. I'm planning on heading to that area to do some night photography before the snow falls, that looks like a good place.

You guys are welcome at a meet at the pub, we have a pretty large sized group so there is lots of potential for sharing.

If you ever come to Calgary then email Satan@uea.ca and you'll be made welcome, taken to locations and given free accommodation. We'll help save you the $$$ you spend on the flight over here :)

Wheel,

I have a collection of car abandonment photos, mostly from a farm in Northern BC (near Fort Saint John). To see a couple more of those pics go to my photo.net gallery http://www.photo.n...r?folder_id=510975 Thanks for the info on where to find the bridge I'm planning a solo expedition later this month.

making a run at heller this up coming weekend myself, east coulee is my target tho, a town of 1000 with only 200 living there now, sounds like a blast, and wheel, thats a great shot of the bridge, did you explore the area as well? the mine and blacksmith shops up on the top of the "hill"?

Across the river from East Coulee (up river from the Atlas Coal Mine that you refer to) there is another old mine. Old buildings and stuff. And if you are into sink hole exploration there are some gigantic sink holes on that slope as well. Cross over the old bridge from East Coulee, head up river a bit, and head up the hill towards a little forest.

If the ground is frozen, it's a good time for sinkhole exploration in general. But don't do it if things are melting, they like to collapse...

I knew I'd seen this church before!
It's in the Tom Cochran video for "Life Is A Highway"
That song/video is circa 1991, so the old thing has weathered well considering the time. A little less paint by the looks of it, but no graf or arson.

i should check back here more often. never made it to the other locations listed. fyi, the churches are in dorothy, east of the mine and bridge.
i located an interesting building when i was there but could not reach it. directions, continue east past the mine, keep your eyes to the right and on the other side of the river. approx 1km past the mine is a huge house type building with a patio all the way around. it is abandoned. it is surrounded by picnic tables, possibly an old day camp? the only access i found was back by the mine through private land and lots of no go signs.
it is worth while to stop at the towns between drum and the mine lots of interesting stuff and some strange garage type things built in to the side of the hills.
