Any CO people wanna meet Asylunt?

So I helped a friend move out here to Denver from Minneapolis, been in town since Weds. I been exploring the City on my own for the past few days, and this last weekend we went out camping in the mountains and made a stop in at Gilman. I was out there Last year with a group of midwesterners and my how the place has changed. A chimney has fallen off of the Rec Center building and smashed through the roof of a neighboring building. A skate park has been constructed in the Gymnasium, and a lot of stuff has been smashed and/or moved around extensively.

I also noticed a interesting abandonment near where santa Fe connects with 285, it's near the Light Rail Station, I think in or near Englewood. I'm thinking about checking that place out sometime soon.

My Friend's apartment is right near Cherry Creek so I walked that a few times and noticed several drains that could either be interesting or suck majorly. Not much of a drain person unless I know they are going to be interesting.

So I leave Thursday afternoon, won't be able to stick around for the COExpo thing this weekend, just wondering if any locals wanna meet up the next few days and do some exploring or just hang out for a bit.

I'm kind of tethered to the Denver Library for communication, so I'll try and get back when I can. If you PM me your Phone number I can call from a pay phone or something. Should have the internet set up Wednesday morning at my friends place.

I swear, you CO bastards have 100 times the locations/explorers we have. Maybe next summer I'll head over in that direction and join up on a meet. Until then, I'm stuck with warehouses. Ugh.

Santa Fe, 285, light rail station, that's really close to where Behemoth's tyre. Might want to check that place out while your at it. I'll see if I can find what you saw sometime this week.

Isn't that tire place where someone got attacked by dogs? That's one of the reasons I didn't check it out when I first saw it. figured it would be a good idea to ask around before I suffered a similar fate.

Well, I was just at Gilman, but I'd totally be up for tagging along if you guys head out today. I don't really have a means of transportation and the cash flow is extremely low, but if you wanna meet me somewhere near downtown today and pick me up that's cool. I was thinking about taking the Coors Tour today or tomorrow if I could figure out how to get over there on public transit.

Sorry I didn't give you all much notice about my visit, but it was sort of a last minute decision on my part. I've had fun wondering around on my own anyway. I am pretty sure I'll be moving out this way myself in the next year or so. So I'll get to know many of you in time.

Thanks for the help,

Asylunt

I think gates is what I saw, I just saw it from Santa Fe.

I wouldn't be opposed to doing a drain but the weather seems very unstable for such an outing. I'm an old regular to Colorado and know how quickly flash floods can develop in some of the more mountainous regions, I'm sure with Denver Weather, it's no different in the city's drains, as Chainsaw has already stated.

Well tomorrow will be my last day in Denver. Not sure if I'll be free tomorrow night or not, so if you are interested in meeting up, speak up. If no one's able to meet up tonight or tomorrow that's cool, I'm sure I'll be back sometime soon.

P.S. - Smoke my poor ass up and I guarantee a good time of shooting the shit!

Yeah, I won't be able to meet you tomorrow, but if/when you move back out here, I'll try to make something work.

Yeah I read that rather quickly at the library and forgot about it after checking in with the lady friend back home. Sorry Cave Monkey, I should have gotten back to you, we could of had some good times. oh well, hope your weekend expo turns out good, I had fun in your city anyway. I really don't understand why rent is so freaking cheap here, but I think cheap rent and a mountainous backyard are two things that will help me convince the GF into moving this direction. I know I'll be out this way again soon even if I don't make the move, one of my best friends has a place out here now, and I'll be sure to visit again before this summer is over.

P.S.- Why is there such a big homeless problem here when you have cheap housing and seemingly plenty of entry level jobs available? Just curious. I mean it seems like there are plenty of programs in place to help these people, do they just not want to change or something?

Well, downtown has a pretty big homeless problem, but most major metro areas have that - thing is our weather is conducive to not having a place to live - unlike the great white north they can stay here year round and only need to get into a shelter a few nights a year.

Yeah, the weather here is supreme! I like it, Minneapolis gets so freaking humid this time of year that it is almost unbearable to go out and do anything outdoors.

Minneapolis has a good deal of homeless as well, but a lack of blue collar entry level jobs and a high cost of living keep them in shelters and on the streets. In the harsh winters, well they move into the underground locations like the Tail Races and Mel's hole. One thing I have noticed about the homeless here, they are a nicer bunch than what we hav in the Twin Cities. They seem to not bother you too much, aside from some hispanics trying to sell me pot, I wasn't hassled by anyone in all my walking around.

some of the denver homeless problem comes from other states bussing thier homeless to denver. there was a big expose on the news a while back.

overall i've found them to be friendly, and as stated, our bitchin weather makes it easier on them.
