well we dont have the brightest of planners over here in montreal either. I arrived back in MTL to discover that they want to tear up our oldest freight yard/main line to build none other then a casino... did I mention it is a block away from my house in one of the oldest parts of town?

The former Ogilvie Mills 11 storey elevator, and boiler house with stack, is coming down with an implosion on August 21, 2005.
thats according to the news I watched last night.
They said they haven't come up with the 'safe zones' yet, where people can stand and watch....i'm gonna go out today, and find a good view...the only problem is: I don't know from where the police cruisers will have the streets blocked....I want to get a really good view!

I was able to get into the site, by climbing the fence, on the auto repair side of the site, where that old smashed up Toyota Supra is parked. They put up mountains of mud around the site, to prevent objects from flying out of the perimeter during the implosion.
I wonder though, they do not want to damage the building to the left of it (former Ogilive Mills warehouse, built 1948, with metal canopy on front, ie: former Casa De Fruta store, old world market store), so how is a huge 11 storey building that is no more than 60 feet away from that building gonna remain undamaged...
I could only imagine what would happen if it accidently tips to the left! OOOPS!..but i'm sure those guys are pro's who are doing the implosion.
Anyways, people, WATCH OUT...don't even go there by yourself, don't go period!!!!
I WENT THERE, AFTER THEY GUTTED LIKE THE BOTTOM 5 STORIES, AND THE MAIN FLOOR, GROUND LEVEL, RIGHT UNDER THE ELEVATOR IS SCARY, CUZ ITS FULL OF HOLES FOR UNDERGROUND EQUIPMENT THAT WAS ONCE USED IN THE MILL. I COULDN'T EVEN SEE HOW DEEP THOSE HOLES WERE, BUT TRUST ME, NOBODY WOULD WANT TO FALL IN THERE, THERES PROBABLY WATER DOWN THERE, AND YOU'LL PROLLY DROWN OR GET EATEN BY RATS!!!
the only thing I could clearly see was some sort of a gear mechanism, rusted out, and some huge water pipes.
Stay away from that place...or if you do decide to go, go with somebody, and attach a rope to your waist, tied to a column, just so you don't fall into a pit or black hole.

Oh, and those Silos (theres the 15 directly behind the elevator, these silos were built in 1909 & than theres the seperate group of taller, 12 silos, built in 1956). THERE IS SCARY PITS UNDERNEATH THEM!!!! It was scary looking into them...I don't know what these pits were for, but there was a chair thrown into one of them, boards, pipes, junk, and water at the bottom. I don't know how deep the water is to the bottom.

They also removed the walls of the catwalk that attached the old silos to the new ones. I don't know if they're gonna take out all of the bricks on the 11 storey elevator, cuz as far as I can see, the crane they have on the site only reaches slightly above the original 15 silo's height.

I think they're gonna demolish the silo's seperately (with the crane and ball), after the initial blast.

August 21 is Implosion day, and the last time you will see Ogilvie Mills. Sad.

Jeez, im real glad we got to explore it before this date. Its an awesome site, great fun to explore, following the death defyingly ingenious methods required to get from the bottom floor to the rooftop.

Would be interesting to see its sudden demise as well.

Wow, I thought maybe the stack would be saved but no, the city had to be a bunch of asshats. I am kind of wishing that I was in town to have seen it.
