A good friend is one that bails you out of jail. But a true friend is the guy sitting next to you in the back of the cop car saying "Man that was awesome!" |

| | | First, see a doctor and get a physical. Update all your shots. Then pass the required physical fitness test with includes: *Running 1.5 miles in 14 minutes *Finding your way through a maze in 4 minutes *Lifting and carrying a 150 lb. dummy 100 feet *Placing a ladder against a wall and climbing up and down within the required 60 seconds. *Crawling through a hole 14 inches by 14 inches. *Correctly answering 5 simple math problems in your head. *Be able to correctly identify the correct spelling of the words "No Trespassing" and both the english and spanish spellings of "Danger" But seriously. Look around all the Urban exploration sites you find on the internet. Pay particular attention to what they suggest as far as gear is concerned and what tips they have to offer (safety and technique) Look at the photo galleries that are posted. Would you be comfortable in that environment? And ask questions. Some of the people here have been doing this for years and are a great wealth of information. There are a lot of places that are very dangerous to be around without the proper safety gear. Good luck and be safe!

Go outside and walk around. That's all it is, really. If you go somewhere dark, take a flashlight. If you want to take pictures, take a camera. Urban exploration only requires common sense, it's not very complicated.

| | | You also have to buy a "UE License" from an established UE Licensure Board. It just so happens that I have the power to grant these licenses. That will be $200, payable to me. Cash is preferred, in non-sequentially numbered low-value bills. But seriously...

Look, maybe a little education in the way that the Internet works is in order. You've stumbled upon a web forum, full of various dezinens who have asked and answered the questions you've just posed probably hundreds of times over. All this is archived here on the boards, all this knowledge, in these amazing things we call threads. To help you out, let's perform an exercise: - Go back to the "Tutorials, Lessons and Useful Info" board. - Look for a thread that says, oh, something like "Equipment: What to Bring" - Click on it - answers to your second question are contained within! - Learn That thread is linked to on the page you had to go through to post your message. All you would have had to do is move your eyes down 4 lines and you would have seen something that answered your question. Or, you could poke around any number of the existing UE sites. People often recommend Infiltration as a good starting point for newbies. The whole point of urban exploration is to discover things that other people ignore or take for granted. Right now you're putting yourself squarely into that "other people" category so that's the first thing you should change if you want to "get started on this stuff". Now, if you search the forums, read threads and still don't come up with an answer to your question -- then post here. But if you'd just put forth a little effort you could learn a lot without even having to do so. [last edit 6/5/2005 9:45 PM by Servo - edited 3 times]

As much as people on these forums are VERY gentle, this type of question will get you nothing more than "stupid newbie" comments.
Servo said it well, but let me try to answer you concisely. Find something interesting. Explore it. Simple as that.

You forgot "don't die." Oh, and, when you ski: "Go that way really fast. If something gets in your way... turn." Don't let us insult you away from here, specter. We were all newbies at one point or another, so we all know what it's like to want to do everything correctly when we start out.

| | | Thirsting for information? Like Servo said, go to Infiltration... On the left, you'll see Theory, Practice, and Resources. Learn from them. Places to explore are all around you, it's just a matter of noticing or finding them. [last edit 6/6/2005 12:24 AM by tick - edited 1 times]

| | | Honestly, to be an explorer takes some initiative and effort. Most explorers are the "help those that help themselves" kinds of people... So, read the tutorials board if you want to learn, there is a wealth of information on virtually every aspect and method of exploration/infiltration.
It requires wisdom to understand wisdom: the music is nothing if the audience is deaf. |
