How close can you go?
| | Re: Light, Medium or Heavy..... <Reply # 2 on 5/31/2005 6:42 PM >
| | | When exploring, I have a flashlight and my photography equipment, which consists of camera, couple of lenses, flash, tripod, bag and some small accessories. No need for ninja stuff. Of course I also have the stuff I always carry around, i.e. wallet, keys, cellphone with empty battery and Leatherman Wave. When exploring remote locations with bicycle, I also have a tire repair kit (considering of replacing this with couple of unused inner tires) and pump. So, I guess that it's "medium".

| | | I go with a lighter, my smokes, and if i remember to bring my disposable camera then that also. Sometimes i have a backpack with my second sweater in it.. I wish I had rubber boots, and a digital camera like some of the other explorers on here have... but I dont... so besides a lighter and smokes, i bring my wallet and keys and those types of things.

| | | I go with medium gear. ALMOST anything I could ever need! A few tools, several lights of various sizes, gloves, spare parts and backpack.

| | | I have enough gear to pack very heavy, but I generally only carry water, camera, maglite, spare shirt or jumper, maps, meds and mobile phone. If a site requires it, I can pack other stuff like respirator, rope, tools, waders etc.

| | | Light, Digital Camera, Water (sometimes), maybe a gronola bar or two (sometimes), Lens and screen cleaning kit, mini tripod, extra batteries, sholder bag. All this together is very light, so I would say light.

| | | I actually went from light to medium just recently (I bought a heavier tripod). Good investment, I believe.

| | | I tend to carry the bare minimum; flashlight, digital camera, knife, and of course my car/house keys, wallet... Sometimes I'm smart enough to bring gloves and a bottle of water as well. I haven't bought myself a tripod yet, but I've found that carefully placed tables/chairs/cardboard boxes make for good tripods. The pro is that I don't have to carry heavy, awkward tripods around w/ me, the con is that I don't get as much control w/ the shot I'm taking. But that's okay w/ me.

| | | It all depends on where I'm going. Usually I travel light - just a flashlight, camera, and tripod. For storm drains and railroad tunnels I pack heavier... I throw in a lightweight rain jacket, extra flashlights, extra batteries, a headlamp, and sometimes an extra camera.

| | | I definitely like to travel light. Flashlight and a camera is about it for me, although I really need to pick up an asbestos filter too.
