| | | I found this site about abandoned airports that might be useful to some so I thought I'd post it here.I don't know how inclusive it is but it's pretty cool. http://www.airfields-freeman.com/

| | | wow, great find, thanks. except some "abandoned" airports dont seem to be truly abandoned, in some recent photos of some, they seem to be very active, although im not sure what with. but very cool find anyway. again, thanks.

| | | Sure! I don't think the webmaster on that site uses the same criteria for "abandoned" that we do.

| | | it does seem that his criteria for abandoned isnt to strict. i know of alot of these airports that are actually private now and not abandoned. you would be surprised what pilots will fly in and out of if they can own it. they can look totally abandoned until you see something taking off one day. most of the ones around here have been plowed up and built on though. my small town used to have a SMALL field back in the day that is used from time to time although its not on any charts anymore. alot of these strips are still on the charts though, i believe mostly for identification to nonlocal pilots and its also nice to know if you had engine problems very near by. a few years ago i had my electrical system go and we were going to land at a "closed" field if it quit, but it ended up making it back to the airport and taxing to the tiedowns. its amazing how many runways are around if you just go look for some. i know of at least 4 strips within a mile from my house that are on private land.

| | | It looks to me like he combined abandoned with off beat. I guess I could drop a line and actually ASK him but it's more fun to guess.

| | | It is Abandoned and Little-Known as the title suggests... At the end of each entry he states what condition the airport is in. Demolished, abandoned, active... whatever.

| | | You mean up in the title where it says: Abandoned & Little-Known Airfields © 2002, © 2005 by Paul Freeman. Revised 5/30/05? Thanks I'm interested in those little forgotten ghost town lookin' airports like they always show in the movies where dope smugglers and plane loads of convicts land. That one in Con Air would be great. He said Listen you people I've got a question. You won't pay attention but I'll ask anyhow.I found a way that will get me an answer. Been waiting to ask you 'till now. Right now

Heh... yeah, it's some good music. My roommate picked up The Essentials album, so I listened to the whole thing. I love how every song tells a story, but again, thats Chapin for you. Sniper was my favorite, the lyrics are just right and the music fits it perfectly. The first words he spoke took the town by surprise. One got Mrs. Gibbons above her right eye. It blew her through the window wedged her against the door. Reality poured from her face, staining the floor. It's terribly great!

| | | Actually, this leads me to ask all those in the Toronto area, is there anything cool left at the old Downsview airport, anything worth getting in to see?

| | | If anyone is in the KC area Independence has an abandoned airfield. Its at the end of selsa road. There isnt much left of it now just two old hangars and an overgrown runway. It is really easy to access though people are always on the airstrip flying RC planes. Up untill a few months ago there were still some old planes in the hangars but I believe they have been removed. Thanks for posting that website it was neat to see and old photo of it in its hayday.
