The Rogers sugar building ? That place definitely looks interesting.

Yeah, the road getting a checkpoint and much higher security down there does suck for exploring that area. I had heard it was because part of that area was to be taken down and rebuilt with something to do with accomodations for the Olympic athletes... can't remember where I read that.

How about getting a list of the 600 confined spaces in Vancouver and checking that out. Like the Point Grey reservoirs built in 1910, 3 underground caverns each 30 feet wide,24 feet tall and 200 feet long, side by side. Has any one else heard of those ones? I read that it was the first confined space that actually scared the head confined spaces officer. In fact I think that I will See if there is any info on that topic.I've seen them from the top.

Yeah, it's the Roger's plant I meant. The old part of the building is really cool looking. It's a shame that there is so much security now, there is a lot of neat stuff down in the port area to check out.

Olympics, never thought of that. I know for sure that they are going to put some stuff in the False Creek flats area, but I could see it in the downtown port area too. I just figured that it had to do with a combination of 9-11, drug/people smuggling. But they really are "cleaning" this area up, and I'm sure that will only get worse. I think we will probably lose alot of cool old buildings as the city prepares for the games. Mind you, old buildings are going fast anyways with the rush to build "luxury" condos. It's a good motivator to go out and explore now, before it's too late.

There used to be a video link about the reservoirs (and other neat places)on here, I can't find it now. Jester, do you know where it is now?

I read that article in the vancouver sun or the province or something.. I think I also read that the title "point grey reservoir" is rather misleading, b/c back in the olden days "point grey" actually refered to a completely different area. or maybe just a slightly different area.

You are right, my old Uncle just took me on a brief tour of some of what once was the district of Point Grey. I have stood on top of that res and thanks to the website that Viper just pointed out I watched the video on it ( the underground res vid ), it was awesome.

Apparently it is located somewhere around Willingdon & Canada Way in Burnaby.

There's a Telus facility right at Canada Way and Willingdon.

Is this what you're looking for?

I only wish it were. It's supposed to be in the woods nearby to there though. I've scoured the woods behind that area between Canada Way and the Freeway but haven't found anything.

Thanks anyways!

I think someone's been pulling your leg.

A concentrator or other small equipment could be hidden underground quite easily, but something the sope of an entire CO would leave some evidence of its existence on the surface. At minimum, there would be a ventilation shaft, an access portal, and an access road. The wooded area, however, contains nothing immediately suspicious.

Have you tried asking for information on comp.dcom.telecom?

I hadn't thought of newsgrouping it. An entire switch can be hidden underground, usually it is as you said a concentrator or a multiplexer. And still, the switches that I have seen in underground locations have been DMS1 Remote Switching Units anyways. The person who had (supposedly) been in it was never very clear in how near it was to the area. He said it looked something like a doorway into a hill with some ventilation panels nearby. So, it isn't really hidden other than by obscurity really.

Cheers!

How about the armoury/bunker under the Brockton point tea house. Now that would be a rush! The building that PoT speaks of on 1st has just caught my attention in the last couple of days. I wonder what goes on there, I noticed today that the grounds are quite ill kept, and what are all those little towers and such on top of it?N.

Do you mean the bunker under the Brocton Point lighthouse or the bunker underground at Ferguson Point, by the Sequoia Restaurant? Both are pretty well sealed. There are also other military installments few people know about that still exist in Stanley Park...

My guess is also that it's an active hydro substation or transit overhead booster station.

My preference would be this massive abandoned sawmill I forget the name of between Prince Rupert and Prince George. I looked out for it but drove past it last year. By then I was too close to PG to care to backtrack. Next time...

There's a place around... with very active security, cameras, 2 inch thick bars on every window, and electronic entry on all doors. Now that's where I'll explore when the time is finally right...

The town I was born in ,Salmon Arm B.C used too be divided into sections of agricultural plots owned by a few families who's names mark the land and town to this day. Many of these families had large unique houses built and added onto over the years of fruit wealth. Some of these houses still stand in the central parts of the subdivisions named for them. My own great grandfather Don Raven owned a converted apple packing house on what is now raven subdivision and his wife Ruth's relatives the wilcox family owned a sears robuck catalog prefab house on the waterfront. Hillcrest manner built in 1915 and owned by the same man until his death in 1984 still stands beautifuly restored on the lower shelf of the hill above town. While Mcguire house once the most prominent residence in town sits delapidated over mcguire lake and the sleazy mcguire inn.
The turner house is occupied by the last living male turner He is a nice old man who lives in one of his families old houses but according to him it was not the families main house which was to have been located atop the "turner creek trail". The only old family which seems too be thriving in town is the Petersons who still run the peterson Bros. orchard and have managed to hang on to most if not all family residences. Anyway rambling aside it is my dream to be allowed too search through any of these old houses, I have hoped my whole life for a chance to search any of them top too bottom and just rumage through the history of this town and these families.

I'd definetly like to free roam barkerville at night, that would be sooooo awesome. go into the mine shafts and the graveyard and all the old buildings and shit, that'd be spooky cool. I think the picton farm would be spooky to explore as well. And btw, i noticed someone talking about the "tent city" building, that used to be woolworths, shut down like 15 years ago, that be cool too, if not for the risk of syringes. If i could explore any urban spot in the world though, it would have to be the catacombs under paris, there's like 100's of miles of tunnels and skeletons under there. The lafayette cemetary in New orleans would be cool too, don't think i'll ever get the chance now though
