| | | I wanted to explore an active quarry last night, when I saw an orange strobe on one of the buildings. It looked like one of those anti collision strobes on high towers, but this building is defiently not high enough to need such a thing. I didn't explore the site cause I was afraid that the strobe might be part of an alarm system. What do you think the strobe is for? [last edit 5/5/2005 9:07 PM by Albert - edited 1 times]

| | | What color is it?? In europe strobes have to be red, if it's orange or something else than it's not for anticollision. Other way to find out is to go see when it's dark, if it is burning or flashing you know enough.
A 1000 days of sorrow can disapear in a split second, it takes only one person to make it happen. |

Note: he did say "last night". I don't think it is anything to worry about, quarries dont generally have security. However, if they do, it is in the form of an avoidable security guard. The light is most likely there to provide a sense of activity and security, or it could be a strobe to indicate that electricity is active.

| | | I'm just coming from the quarry and it turns out that there are strobes on most conveyors. One of them is flashing for some reason, but there is no security. The main building is pretty cool it's interior reminded me a little of Half Life.

| | | The strobe could be simply for marker purposes, in an active quarry there's a lot of heavy machinery moving around with limited visibility and a lot of dust, the strobes could simply be to help make sure a truck driver doesn't back into important equipment or something.

| | | Is it particularly bright, and does it strobe often, or is it just the occasional blink? If so, wooble may be right; it could be left over from when the place was open. Depending on how much power it uses, the thing could blink for years without needing a new battery.

| | | The quarry is still active. The thing is mounted on a conveyor roughly 5 meters above the ground. I didn't get close to this particular on but it looks probably like this:
It is flashing twice per second and is definitely not part of an alarm system.

| | | My vote is for marker light then.

| | | If the site is active the strobe could indicate that machinery in that particular area is functioning, like a conveyor belt or something.
