remember that asbestos fibres are very small (some as small as 5 microns, although anything smaller than 5 microns isn't a real danger for your lungs to get stuck)and after a time your suits can become loaded with fibres. That's not very healty and that's why removal teams wear tyveks. The only problem is that Tyvek suits are white, reflecting white that is. Maybe they have to make them in Urban camo or something like that, not the "Look I'm here" white suits.

A 1000 days of sorrow can disapear in a split second, it takes only one person to make it happen.

Histoplasosium is out there. especially in the mississippi River section of the country. Most of the people that grew up in the areas that have a lot of it, have histo antibodies and will usually get no more then a sniffle. I believe it has to be in bloom to catch it. I caught it in southern Georgia. They used Flagyl to treat it. It is an antifungal pill. Also used to treat yeast infections. I know of a couple of people here in South Carolina that have caught it from chicken coups. One of the is blind because he was never treated for it. Symptoms are total lack of energy, nonproductive coughing, very high temperature. A blood test and xray are use to confirm it.

I'm personally more worried about Cryptococcus Neoformans mould, which commonly inhabits pigeon nests and droppings, and has the capability to quietly sit and multiply in your lungs for years and years before spreading to your bloodstream and infecting other tissues, causing a whole range of maladies but specifically meningitis.

Apparently it is very hard to catch with a healthy immune system, but the thought of something possibly growing away in my lungs waiting to suddenly bust a whole load of horrible diseases out into my body 10 years down the road doesn't make me happy.

Dammit, I'm probably going to spend the rest of my life worrying about whether I'm incubating some hideous disease now. Cheers.

What if you just walked through a site and didn't disturb the abestos? Would the possible small amount of abestos affect anything?

I realize that this isn't an asbestos topic, but I'll just throw in my two cents. Asbestos will eventually fall to the ground and come to rest there, larger pieces first, then the smaller ones. Some can be small enough to just float around in the air indefinitely, but those won't be big enough to be a huge problem. However, if someone disturbs the asbestos on the ground by walking over it, or a new air current is introduced, the problem begins again. So, the lesson to be learned here is don't kick around the white stuff at your feet and then start inhaling it.

On the other hand, most patches of asbestos cannot be seen by the naked eye, so it would be really hard to walk through an asbestos-filled site, even though you are trying not to kick up anything, without disturbing the asbestos inside. Besides, stepping so cautiously kinda takes your mind off UEing, so it's not as fun. My advice: if you're worried about asbestos, get a P100 respirator and have fun exploring. If you're not worried about it, have fun exploring. Either way, the choice is entirely up to you.

i just got a new Willson® Premier® Plus respirator with 4 GP100 P100 rated filters for free. Can't beat the price, but i was wondering if filters for this are common, tried googling it but didnt find a place I could actually order from. Not that i need any now, just curious. Also how often should filters be replaced? Thanks in advance.

I couldn't find anything about your particular type of filters, but particle-only, i.e. P100 filters can be used until they become difficult to breathe through, I believe. If it's a combined filter, i.e. something with activated charcoal or some other chemical filtering system, then the shelf life is around 5 years and a maximum lifespan of 6 months once the filter is opened.

Edit:

This page has a sales number and email address for Willson Safety, You might be able to order from here.
