I used to work security at a mall in Pa and I would occasionally check the rooftops for the view and also to check out the cars parked in the lot with the steamed windows. Most of the time myself and the other guards were too busy walking from barcode to barcode with a handheld scanner, acting as a firewatch to check on the roof. (eventually we shorted out the barcode scanner with a penny so that we could sleep or engage in nefarious behaviour instead of scanning barcodes- I'm still on probation after having infiltrated into about 13 stores and locking up after - didn't know about UE at the time and the motto "Take nothing . . . Take it from me, State Prison sucks, anyway). Guards at malls are usually less professional than I and they will be burdened with mindless rounds and spend much time standing in front of Victoria's Secret wishing they were James Bond. If there are camera's, they may not be watched at night because nothing happens (usually). My advice, surveil the mall first. determine how many guards are on nightshift, what cars they drive, and their rounds. watch the roof for at least one night if possible to determine if they even check the rooftop. Motion sensors on roofs - I doubt it, there would be false alarms all the time from birds, snow, knights in cardboard armor, etc.
Once on the roof, check the parking lot for security vehicle patrols, look down through domed windows at guards standing in front of Victoria's Secret, forget about rappeling down through the glass to get the small mac machine (State Prison sucks), check out the rooftop rooms with communications gear/ repeaters, and watch out for cables/ satellite wires that can cause you to trip.
Oh, lastly, make friends with the maintenance dept. they are usually ex-cons who may give you a tour for the price of a Penthouse. Posing as Maint. workers, nah uh, won't work to often because the guards know the maint. people (that's who we traded porno with - we were the little people working in the rich man's world).

You got into 13 stores? Details!

How did you finally get caught? What were you charged with that landed you in prison?

Sometimes, you need to march right in and demand your rights, even if you don't know what your rights are, or who it is you're talking to. Then, on your way out, slam the door.

I once thought about going on the roof of the mall in my area... It was easy to get up, just a pole that runs up the side of the building, an easy 2 story climb up and down. Although, the mall is an already heavily guarded mall, we always have cops driving around the outskirts of the mall and parking lots, and dozens of cops inside. We have had a few shootings, one fairly recently, so our mall isn't going to be the best place to try to get on the roof at. Although, I am very curious as to what is up there, and despite the great risk I might make a journey up there sometime in the future.

South Shore Plaza?

Go for it, as long as you can run faster then a fat man can waddle, the security guards cant do shit to you. and considering theres woods and sidestreets about a 20 second run from the place on all sides, id say your fine in a worst case scenario.

there is a mall near me walking around outside it one day i saw a little cage that is normaly locked. Inside is a latter to the roof. Also the mall is old and kind of run down no visible cameras on the outside or inside. But i think there may be some because me and a friend went into an empty store and found some office chairs and proceeded to slide around on them at high sppeds until a large man in a suit proceeded to yell and cuss at us and threaten to call the cops and insult me reapeatedly. So im hesitant about trying it.
