| | | I have lost about 10 pounds in the last month or two from UE alone. Seriously. The best regime IMO is to go out and do it. Industrial sites especially are great, because of all the ladders/overhangs/random shit that is climbable.

| | | I have to admit that UE is pretty much my exclusive form of exercise... For instance I spent a good 6 hours walking downtown denver for Doors Open and had a great time this weekend. I know, I know...I should work out, I just lack motivation, treadmill or running through suburbia is just too boring.

| | | I'm attempting to run some. I occasionally do some push-ups or something. Pretty lazy and pressed for time, but I've noticed when I spend a lot of time on difficult UE I tend to "tone up" a bit.

| | | I'm a freak so I like working out anyway, I lift twice on MWFSa and run TR (sometimes Sunday too). I'm naturally really thin, so I actually lift to gain weight, which isn't very normal. Everyone can feel free to hate me for that. It is really helpful when I go UEing though, I love climbing around buildings and being in shape makes that much easier. A full day of UEing still takes it out of me though, I'd say a good couple hours is about equivalent to running.

| | | My crew of explorers is also the guys I work out with on a daily basis, and we used to have one day a week for UE related exercises- lots of pullups and things that would improve jump height. That was back when we were almost always just climbing buildings, which was a bit more demanding than the stuff we do now.

| | | I usually kill a six pack to get started. Then keep it at a slow pace of 2-3 an hour. That allows me to still explore and have the government recommended daily allowances of vitamin beer. I have to combine hobbies since I never have any time for much of anything. A little bit of running, hitting the weights, and climbing can't hurt either. You need to excercise your mind as well as your body to be a good explorer. It also helps to be in with The Mouse.

IF you want stronger legs, squats are were its at. Plyos and calf exercises and also pretty good, but squats will help more than anything to get power in your step.

| | | Pullups, dude. If you're doing ANY building/construction site/fence climbing (which you most likely ARE), they work wonders. I mean, it makes a lot of intuitive sense...you're PULLING yourself UP when you climb something, after all!

| | | 50 push-ups and 50 raised crunches a day and you're laughin. If you can't do em in a row, whatever, sets of 10 5 times a day. You'd be surprised how little it takes to elevate your resting metabolism so that your body's burning fat all day. When I'm not too lazy I do those, alternating between a set of one and a set of the other, so like 10 push-ups, ten crunches, etc. up to 50 of each. This is of course after a bout of serious stretching (basically my old warm ups from Karate). then I'll follow it up with 50 quick shrugs using 10lb dumbells, some curls with a 70lb barbell, maybe some military presses, bench presses. there's no particular reason for those amounts of weight, it's just that I only have 10lb dumbells and I can't fit any more weight on my curl bar : P Ya gotta make do with what you have PS: when I say raised crunches, it's just a crunch with your legs sticking straight out holding your feet about 6 inches off the ground. makes a HUGE difference, you feel the burn a lot faster.

| | | I try to run 4-5 times a week, anywhere from 3-6 miles. I used to run cross country and track in HS. I actually did a lot of body building for a few years and got up to 230lbs and still had a faintly visible 6 pack, Im 5'8" btw, but then I had 2 surgeries, didnt feel like lifting and ruining my body anymore. Then I got fat. I was about 215 and pretty chubby, I now weigh about 179 and lost most of it through diet and running. To my surprise I still have a lot of the strength, so that helps me out majorly in a lot of situations.

| | | I do pushups, situps, and squats in my room every other day, and curl with a 40lb dumbbell in between. For stamina I do a half hour program on my treadmill and although I'm new at this UE thing, that routine has helped me out a lot when I play sports.

| | | Hello. This is my first post on this site. I had a membership for a while but I couldn't post because I haven't had a computer for several months ( I'm using a library computer right now ). Anyway, I came across this site that sells books & videos on strength training, flexibility, ab exercises, and so on. And all I can say is that I wish that I knew this information along time ago. I already own three of the books: Power to the People- This book teaches you how to build strength with out bulking up (very useful if you want to maintain a low bodyweight). Beyond Stretching- This book is no longer available. They now have a newer version called Relax into Stretch, or something like that. Bulletproof Abs- The title speaks for it's self. This book has been very useful for me. I swear, after learning those exercises in that book I always find myself laughing at those infomercials that sell those ab gizmos and other crap. So check out this site if you want to: http://www.dragondoor.com/a/2361 Have Fun!

| | | I do olympic weight lifting (not training for olympics, just olympic style lifts!) 4-5 times a week, plus Tae Kwon Do 5 nights a week. Any exercise that improves strength, endurance and explosive force if you need it in an emergency is a great asset to any exploration. Self defence is also really good in case you run into trouble with a crazed junkie or something. It may be mostly a confidence thing though, because I have never run into a situation where I've needed to kick someone's head off. Pullups, squats, clean & jerk, overhead squats, dips, deadlifts, skipping, and sprints (not long distance jogging) are all excellent exercises to improve power and overall fitness. I like to think that if I'm ever detected, chased, or confronted by an overzealous security guard, I most likely can evade, outrun, and protect myself without the legal stickiness that carrying a weapon would put me in.

| | | Welcome to the forum Astral. I'm too lazy to attempt more than the most fundamental of exercises, but I would like bulletproof abs. That would be one sweet party trick. BlackDog: You mentioned long distance jogging not being an excellent exercise to improve power and overall fitness. Why is that? [last edit 4/23/2005 6:38 AM by Kakesu - edited 1 times]

| | | Long distance jogging improves endurance (and does a damn good job of it) but if you want to build leg strength, it's all about running hard (or even better, sprinting, even better if it's uphill or with weights). The difference is in how it builds muscle, and you should train for what you plan to do. If you want to be able to burn out of a sight or have impressive acceleration, practice sprinting. If you want to be able to outrun a guard in a long footrace, practice long distance. In my exercise experience, running hard will give you bigger legs, while running long will give you leaner legs. When you work out there is a tradeoff between power and endurance (similar to the way it is in a transmission). Compare a body builder to a marathon runner: while both have impressive power and endurance, the body builder has obvious specialization in power while the marathon runner has obvious specialization in endurance.
