| | | Alright. This is my very first post on this forum so I'll keep it short & sweet. Ive been looking into purchasing NVG's for a while now. But unsure as where to start with these. Ive seen some ranging from $190 Gen1 Russian goggles to Gen3 US made goggles that cost well over $5000. So im asking everyone on here, What is a good, but affordable set of NVG's that are good for UE & say for example, running around in the woods (camping, milsim, ect)? Before you say search search search, I have. I've spent the last two days reading on the forums and searching, in particular, this Night Vision thread: http://www.uer.ca/...urrpage=1&pp#post0 as well as this thread: http://www.uer.ca/...urrpage=1&pp#post7 Also every other thread that in the search, came up when I used the search parameters "Night Vision" What would you guys & gals advise? BTW, I'm "Corrado" & I hail from the Langley area. Ive done a few small time UE's already going solo and in small groups. I'm familiar with two way radio's & all sorts of other little gadgets. | | | I bought mine used it like mad.... and realized that it wasnt as worth as much as I thought. I have it up here and havent used it in about a year. Not saying its a bad purchase, or useless etc etc. I learned some tricks from a few SF guys that makes it less handy. Id suggest gen 1 russian stuff personally, and unless your walking around with it on your head I would go for Russian Monocular. Wal Mart sells a Water Proof monocular for 250-350 I think. http://www.redsoldier.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWCATS&Category=293 Waterproof Night Vision http://www.redsoldier.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=240 [last edit 4/15/2005 12:04 AM by Mark - edited 1 times]

| | | Wow, that was a rather quick reply. Thank you for your advice. I'll add a few more details to this post now. I would be walking & running with the goggles on. Would more the likely be exposed to rather bright Surefire tac. lights here and there. Also what would you suggest for use with say for example, A H&K MP5, still being able to use iron sights? Also waterproof of course?

| | | If your thinking about dual purpose gear for airsoft and UE you might want to change tactics and not use NV. NV and light are bad!

| | | I just use the natural nightvision the aliens gave us all when they planted our forefathers on earth so long ago... I'd love to get some, just don't have the extra cash actually. I did see some at Costco before, but I think they stopped carrying them awhile ago... Oh, and if you're from langley as in BC, there's a UE meet i'm having tomorrow (friday april 15) in burnaby. The thread is right here, so if you're able, come out and meet some of the other explorers from the lower mainland.

| | | Hi everyone. I'm fairly new to UE, just a few months experience, mostly just jaunting upon the rooftops of the town I live in (Chelmsford, Essex, England). I get the impression theres a lot more I could be exploring, mostly I'm here hoping to learn how to find different kinds of sites. Anyway, back on topic. Kinda.

My curiosity's piqued. Save sitting around with my eyes closed for twenty minutes, what can I do to improve my god-given NV. Don't mention carrots.

| | | Hmm. Is there not goggles lower then 3rd Gen that have the auto shutoff safety feature? If so, those are what I would be needing. Would also be a nice thing for any further UE activities. As good as my natural night vision is, There is only so much one can see in near total darkness.

There are several ways, I can PM you the information. Basicly it is the use of all your senses, getting use to the night etc etc. Lots of combination of things. Minus complete darkness such as in a cave you can get around very well with practice. Now I have to work on stealth walking more. 3rd gen has auto shut off, but the issue is when it shuts down you can get confused as shit. Trust me that can suck.

| | | I have a very nice pair of NVG's which are only gen 1, but they are great, very clean and easy to use.. i paid about 500 canadian for them, but i think for botht he "cool" factor and the usefulness factor, they are pretty cool. ebay is a good place to buy
i also have a small gen 1 monoscope which is gyroscopic powered... its kinda cool aswell, bought it for about 300 canadian at a spy store a few years ago [last edit 4/15/2005 4:17 AM by Roadwolf - edited 1 times]

| | | Hey quick question, once again. There was a guy on here that in one of his post, from 2003. He mentioned he might sell some of his NVG's cause he has a bunch of them or something? Anyone recall who that user was? I'd be highly interested in speaking with him. I cant seem to find it again but If someone could help me out. Thanks.
