| | | kick ass. i loved their street map system, now things are even better. these are great images, high zoom, good detail and small watermark. not to mention how good the interface is -- just drag the map to scroll it. those pay services must be getting angry, right about now.

| | | OK - go about 30-40 miles outside of major cities and the satellite imagery goes super low-res. Still a highly useful tool.

*edit* The site sure is slow this morning. People must be swarming to it! [last edit 4/5/2005 3:41 PM by ofberenonehand - edited 1 times]

Well, considering since I posted here I've seen the link go up on Fark, Slashdot and Yahoo News I'm not surprised they are swamped.

| | | I'm impressed, this is the first service that actually includes decent satellite coverage of Alaska. They somehow managed to get better resolution than the landsat community images that NASA worldwind uses, which is cool. I still can't see my house, but I can see the old mines and roads and stuff.

| | | This is a great service when combined with others like Worldwind and mapquest. I've been using it for 20 minutes and i've already mapped out possible entrances to a half dozen drains in my area.

Actually, they seem to have high-res urban areas in places I couldn't get it before. Maybe they're just more on top of the latest data from the USGS. [last edit 4/5/2005 7:53 PM by Servo - edited 1 times]

| | | Not sure if this is a repost, but I just read this article and had to try it for myself. For a free service this is pretty damn good. I just found out I have a pond near my house that I never knew about before. Anyway heres the article: http://www.cnn.com...maps.ap/index.html and heres the site itself: http://maps.google.com/ So if this is a repost feel free to flame away, but this is something too good not to be shared. P.S. Heres a sample pic of my house

| | | Ummm...okay... word of advice... NEVER EVER EVER spend 45 minutes on the web looking for the coordinate location of NORAD while trying to find it on the new maps.google.com site. Especially while you are sitting in the secure network operations center (Ops Bridge) for the regions largest telecommunications service provider. For some reason, they frown on it. They weren't quite satisfied with some of my answers..."I was just playing with the new google satellite imaging service..."
