I think they are okay, especially the xenon/LED combo. But, I am no expert and your needs may be different than mine. I would pay the $40.00.

I would also pay the $40, i mean, 5 led and 1 xenon is a good light combo, plus it comes with lithium batts.

The Xenon 2D may be okay, probably comparable to a maglight, probably not as good though

the 4AA may be okay, I have an 8AA Princeton Tec Surge which is awesome

best bet is the Xenon/LED Lithium flashlight for 40bucks, that is if it switches from Xenon to LED, or both. You could get a different xenon lithium for much cheaper from walmart(brinkmann legend LX) or even the surefire G2 Nitrolon from www.surefire.com is cheaper

but the LED option is nice and will be better on the fast life of the 123's than the constant use of Xenon, but lithium batteries are kinda spendy

Yeah, if you're set on a Xenon/LED light, shop around online for the Streamlight TwinTask lights. They're nicer than the Radio Shack lights, and you can probably find them for cheaper.

I have the stream light 4AA LED light. It's very durable, water proof, and brighter than a 2D mag. Last time I looked it could be had for under $30.

I'd highly recommend the Princeton Tec Surge over the stuff the original poster linked to. Those look like run-of-the-mill cheesy household flashlights (with the possible exception of the xenon/LED combo thing).

The Surge is about the same diameter and shape as a D cell maglite, but it is shorter and lighter than the 2D maglite while also being brighter and having a smoother (but not perfect) focusable beam. It's also waterproof to 500 feet, has a lever switch instead of a button or twist action that's hard to operate one handed or with gloves. It operates on eight plain old AA aklaline batteries, and can actually be run for slightly less time at slightly less output off of four batteries in unusual circumstances. The best part is that it costs less than a lot of flashlights that don't quite match up to it. You can have one shipped right to your door for free. Last I checked (and when I bought mine), the light is discounted to $18 from http://www.buy.com (and the free shipping is saving you about $6 or a trip to a store where they carry these). I sound like a Princeton Tec salesman, but this is a really nice light. It treats me well. Even one of my friends that is sort of a flashlight connoisseur and was skeptical when I described it to him (he turned up his nose and reminded me that he doesn't like plastic flashlights) was very impressed when he first played with it, and is considering ordering one for himself.

I carry a 12 volt miner's head light, complete with a battery with a carrying holster that can be attached to any belt. It is a bright muther. It weighs about 8, to 10 pounds, but it lasts about 8, or 9 hours. It's expensive, but worth the cost.
