Wait for heavy rains, then watch the water. It all has to go somewhere.

when your out just riding around its hard to find drains but its not impossibe. look around the banks of rivers and lakes for entrances. also most drains (in my area anyways) have fencing behind them to prevent people from accdentaly rolling down a hill and falling however many feet the dran is sunk into the ground.

im not sure if that healp but i hope it did.

as for the topo maps ive never used one, i just went down to the neares transportation and workds building and got a copy of the drain maps.

On topo maps, look at where streams and rivers run, and compare it to a street map or aerial shot (or even your memory). Where the rivers that are on the topo map don't show up on the street map/aerial shot, there's a good chance that the stream was buried and turned into a storm drain.

"Because there's no possibility of real disaster, real risk, we're left with no chance for real salvation. Real elation. Real excitement. Joy. Discovery. Invention. The laws that keep us safe, these same laws condemn us to boredom. Without access to true chaos, we'll never have true peace. Unless everything can get worse, it won't get any better." -Chuck Palahniuk

The most comprehensive, in depth document on exploring stormwater drains in existence. The Approach to Draining, written by drain god <predator> of the sydney cave clan.

Check out the Encyclopedia Entry.

You have to just use your instincts and take a day and stroll around the city looking down manholes with a flashlight.

The drain will run in the "lowest" possible elevation sort of. In a concrete ravine your sure to find "something"

As stated above probably the best method is too just find some rivers and hike along them.

Reservs. can be gold too.

Good luck.

Also - don't be afraid to try out some social engineering and visit your city hall for storm drain trunk maps. A "student in environmental science, doing a study on the impact of the urban environment on wetlands" usually makes their eyes glaze over with boredom enough to hand the maps over. Especially if you are a college student with an ID card if they ask.

Although yeah, there's nothing I can say that isn't in (the late) Predator's writeup.
