|Barron Building/Uptown Stage and Screen YYC|

|Here are a few pictures of the recently abandoned Uptown Theatre in the Barron building in downtown Calgary. This building is right smack dab in the middle of the city and I've been to a few shows in the theatre so it was somewhat surreal seeing it in this state. |
The theatre is still intact, down to the popcorn machine, old plastic draped projectors, some reels, and a decently big safe.
There are some great views of the city at night further up the building, the building isn't the tallest but it's by no means short. If you go all the way to the top you're rewarded with what used to be the penthouse, completely stripped with only the natural stone fireplace left standing, a fireplace that happens to be on something like the 12th story. go up a little more and you come to a generator/electrical room. This is probably the most interesting room in the building. All the machinery is still going so the room is awash with humming, clicking, and whirring. It's also the hottest room in the building, 50's electrical equipment is pretty good at giving off heat hahaha. In the corner of the room is a big metal door that literally opens into nothing, if you step through it's at least a 10 story drop. Nice view from this door though.
All the windows in the upper half of the building have since been replaced and there seems to be ongoing construction on the site.
Bit of history on this building: http://www.heritag...ta/barron-building

14. Arrival at nowhere
This is a really interesting site and it's probably going to be gone relatively soon, swing by if you get the chance but keep your ears open for footsteps and voices.
