Useful map for y'all (Florida)

Hey guys. I was doing research on some locations, ended up coming across this map that I thought you guys may find useful:
Link removed

Now, I know that sharing locations publicly is looked down upon, but the purpose of this map isn't to point out abandoned properties, but to point out the more dead or empty parts of Florida, where abandoned areas are more likely to be. So basically, it's just helping to tell ya where to look.

I've personally driven near some of those points and have found a decent handful of locations to check out. It's not 100% useful since some of the marked areas aren't too dead or near abandoned sites, plus the map seems to have been made in 2011 so things could have changed since, so it's a bit hit-and-miss sometimes, use it with a grain of salt.

Again, I know that sharing locations isn't well liked, but I just wanna stress that this isn't a list of abandoned properties, just a general list of dead areas where abandoned properties *might* be found nearby.

Seems to be more harm than help, so ignore this.

Interesting stuff!

I know some of the members here will crucify you for posting location names and exact coordinates, but as you said these are well known abandoned towns and a good amount are state owned parks. Good luck with that.

Even though you are a 2 year junior member, I will still say; Welcome to UER!

The Durango '95 purred away a real horrowshow - a nice, warm vibraty feeling all through your guttiwuts. And soon it was trees and dark, my brothers, with real country dark.

Thanks! Yeah, it looks like this account *just* turned two years old, too. I've been lurking this site forever. But now I'm finally starting to get stuff together for my first exploration.

And yep, most of the locations are less than useful from what I've found so far, but exploring around the points yields good results, as a few of the points are in the sketchier sides of town or near industrial zones, where there are more abandoned properties. Maybe it won't do much good to experienced urbexers, but for newbs like me I think it'll be very helpful.

And that is why I think it is more than kosher.

On another note, have you seen a few of these places in person? Why not post a few pictures of what is there. It would be wonderful to see your shots; as good or bad as they may be

I've driven by a small handful, though most of them have been through Google Maps xD My best friend wants to check these places out too, so I'm waiting for him to have some free time. I have about 10 or 11 different potential locations to check out (used to be larger, but I lost the list a while ago and had to start over from memory), but some are a bit of a drive away. I'm also downloading maps of storm drains, inlets, and drainage pipes so maybe I can go draining too. Though the GIS maps for my city are set up in a convoluted series of files that I don't have the proper program to open, so I'm setting that aside, hoping that the local library will have some storm drain maps.

I looked at a few of the "pins" around Tampa and saw there was lots that was missed. I will call this link "harmless" and I would not expect any shit from the locals on the locations "given up" in the link. As said before, no harm, no foul.
Carry on and explore!

When I say I'm 'clean and sober', it means I've showered and I'm headed to the liquor store.

heres a shocker for everyone...im protesting this map.

why? because a big part of the fun is going out and discovering new places. nobody handed me a map saying "go look in this area". what fun is that? and i see whats going on here...the marked areas are not far from actual abandonments so while you say youre not handing out spots, its pretty damn close. i know because ive been in a lot of these areas. even if im wrong (and i can see the buildings close to your marks) why deprive someone of that huge part of exploring? i get what your intentions are but my friends and i would just look at a paper map and choose spots we had never been to before. town has a weird sounding name? definitely going there! BFE town? totally going there too! driving around to unknown places with your friends is a big part of it. i dont want a map or tips or hints. the only exception to this is when i go out of state. resources are very limited, especially time, so i try to network with other explorers in the area to maximize the adventure. tip of the hat to the NE, SE and st louis guys.

here is a quote from one of my older posts

"i know i was guilty of asking for places back in the day like, where is the rocket, where is this power plant but its gotten to the point where that aspect of urban exploring where people go find something is totally gone. they just want to get there. they are so concerned about the destination instead of the journey getting to that destination, thats where a lot of the urbex culture misses out and where its losing a lot of its luster. when you talk about comradery and the soul of urbex, thats something huge thats definitely missing. a lot of the meat of urban exploring and the backbone of it, is believe it or not, NOT exploring at a particular location. it's everything except that. it's kinda disappearing and getting less and less...in my mind anyway.

the soul of urbex is that collective feeling you get either exploring alone or with your crew. that sense of exploring. the sense of what just went down, how you feel, your environment, what youre exploring, who youre exploring with. the soul is that combination of all those million little things that are involved with urbex from literally all those million things that arent involved with urbex like just hanging out with your friends after exploring, driving around, getting lost, the conversations and inside jokes. i say the soul of urbex is all those things that you cant really pinpoint and if you try to, youll just keep pinpointing all those millions of things are awesome about urbex."

I totally understand where you're coming from, and I agree with you for the most part. Ever since I was little I was always curious and had the urge to go places where I wasn't allowed, and I love the surprise of finding something unexpected, whether that be an unlocked door labeled "Authorized Personnel Only", an abandoned house I didn't even know was there, or what have you. I definitely feel more excitement and pride when I find a location when I wasn't even looking for one. I prefer going outside and exploring way more than I do exploring over a computer. I only look up locations online when I'm either unable to drive around or it's too late at night to go out. I personally am NOT going to use this map to find properties that are near me; those I'll find in my own time. Rather, I'm using it to get an idea of where I could find abandonments that are in towns 30-45 minutes away from me. Because aye, my car only gets 12 miles to the gallon, and gas isn't cheap. If I drive that far, I want to have some assurance that I might find something decent.

But the thing is, if people want that surprise, they don't have to use this map. I'm not forcing anyone to look at it. If they don't want anything spoiled, then they just don't click the link. And if someone uses this map to be lazy and to check out places just a few blocks away from them, I would doubt that those people could be changed anyways, and would just not explore rather than go out and find things on their own.

so you say that this map was easily found through a google search? are you saying thats how you found it or you made it yourself?

"the map was on the first page of a simple Google search so it wasn't that hard for anybody to find anyways" (from flurbex)

*i dont know who this bryan guy is who made these maps but he put his own house and his job out there for everyone to find "by a simple google search"...i motion to strike this dumb shit simply because whoever bryan is, hes a bit of a tool.

Oh no, I definitely didn't make this myself haha. I found it though a search. If I remember correctly, it was actually the first result.

It was something like:
[REDACTED]

I was EXPECTING to find maybe one or two points, probably in a larger city like Jacksonville or Daytona or Miami (more people there, more points to place), where someone placed a point down and labeled it as abandoned or something, because I like looking at pics of abandoned places if I they're too far to drive to. Definitely wasn't expecting or looking for a whole map. But I believe if you take out the "site:" part and rephrase [REDACTED], you can still find it within the first few pages I believe. Though I wouldn't remember what that exact phrase would be.

And no, I wouldn't say I've actually been urbexing. If you look at my other posts you'll find I'm new to exploring abandonments. I guess you'd call what I've done before "infiltration". Otherwise, I've only taken an admiration to abandoned places from the outside. Because usually when I find them I either need to be somewhere or I'm with someone who isn't into that. And I never even thought of *planning* to explore a place as a hobby until a few years back xD it just didn't even occur to me that people might do that.

So you've been ghosting for 2 years here, a month on Flurbex, and the first thing you do after turning 18 is post a map, and you think it's okay? Some of those places are abandoned, I know them personally but you took that shit at face value, from an unknown dude who also mapped out his job and house address. You said it's to help the newbies, well, you just admitted you havent done any UE. I say you're one yourself.

i think its safe to say maps and urbex do not mix well, specifically for reasons like this and the great akbc fiasco. all it takes is for one person to see the map and youve lost all control over who sees it. the akbc map went from 3 views in like 1 day to 3000 views in a few days.

I think it's possible. I can prefer to live in a mansion over an apartment. Doesn't mean that I do or I will. Like I said, gas isn't cheap. I always have my eyes peeled when I'm in the car. If I'm the one driving then maybe I'll take a detour down a more interesting road. And that's preferable to me. But I've got to save what gas I've got because I don't have a steady source of income, so I save everything I have, which means I can't just drive around to random areas.

So yes, I prefer and enjoy exploring in person, but that's not always the best option financially so I usually end up exploring from a computer.

It's just like any other hobby, I suppose. I prefer flying planes over, say, staying at home and playing music, but usually I end up doing the latter because that's cheaper and less expensive.
