Denver Drains

I'm not a big fan of drains for the most part. The majority of the drains I've explored in Denver are new and boring. The one saving grace is that some of them serve as underground art museums. These are just a sample of my many findings in Ninja Turtle land.

Those last three are amazing.
Good job on the light painting in there and the straight lines.

Bonus points for Jake the Dog in #5

Yea the last three were incredible. Unfortunately, I know that the one with the aliens has been dissed since these were taken. Glad you noticed the straight lines as well. I'm OCD about my lines haha.

as mentioned, those last 3 are actually pretty sweet.

I think boring new concrete drains are probably one of the only locations I *don't* mind seeing some good ..."art".

I hate seeing it in mines, in other abandonments, out in nature on rock, and on other people's lear jets.

It would be out of place in nature or in mines. I think vandalism in general goes hand in hand with abandonments though, especially those in urban environments.

I shoot mostly with a Canon 7D. These are all shot with either Tokina 11-16mm or Opteka 8mm, ISO is 200, and I think I was doing 20-30 second exposures for most of these.

It's too bad you feel that way. I think vandalism is an often unfortunate side effect of abandonments, but I much prefer seeing them in pristine condition, in whatever state nature rots them and destroys them to.

I completely agree with Therrin here.

I really like how you captured these mikeandike, specifically on 2, 4, and 6. Great job and thanks for sharing.

I look forward to seeing more of your draining shots.

I love the ways nature destroys them as well. In a way it's the ultimate statement about time healing all wounds. I used to be one of those vandals, but I too hate shitty chicken scratch, slurs, and kindergarten depictions on beautifully aged walls. I also appreciate a vandal with skill and a keen eye for composition. Just personal opinion though, and I certainly wouldn't care if I never saw any graffiti of any kind in an abandonment again just to be rid of the garbage. Try not to hold it against me haha.

There is a difference between vandalism and graffiti. Artistic merit is key to determining which is which.

i still say it depends where it is. Depends what the "canvas" is. Some places, I don't give a fuck how good you are at it, it just doesn't belong there.

This I agree with. There are definitely places it doesn't belong.

Awesome photos! I'd love to find more drains and tunnels to explore, but I suck at finding them. Heck, I took three wrong turns and wasted 15 minutes trying to find and get to the easy to access Broadway storm drains in Boulder, CO lol.
