Snakes in Denver's Sewers

So, today I was solo exploring a few major drain systems in south east Denver, close to Quebec and Cherry Creek, when I popped out of a storm drain to come pretty much face to face with this bastard. Thing hissed and acted all cray-cray, but I climbed out and got some photos. I'm pretty sure it's a bull snake, but its skin measured over four feet (photo is with size 12.5 shoes for reference). Anyone else ever seen snakes living in our drains, and any as big?

Saw this small one on a sandbar within a fairly large room years ago. Snakes don't seem to be all that common in the systems around here, or at least not that I've seen.

You shouldn't be coming across any deadly snakes unless you're out of the city; snakes prefer hot, rocky places, but rattlesnakes are very rarely in urban locations. Now, bullsnakes, gardeners, etc., that pose no threat to you will be common in drains, 'cause, again, hot rocky places!

So, check where you put you're about to put your hand before putting it there (especially in grassy areas near concrete), let alone your face. Bullsnakes are jerks, and kinda everywhere. I don't find too many large snakes unless I'm in the mountains.

this and scorpions and black widows, are the reason I'm hesitant to do any draining in the phoenix area....

Looks like a bull snake. They can get big!

Found this guy harassing some birds while on a hike in Golden, but they're all over the place - as you get closer to urban areas they like to hang out in spots where they won't be easily disturbed and so it's likely you'll run into them when you go exploring, especially during warm days since they like to bask in the sun.

Rattlers like open areas where they can get at their prey easily so they're often found in fields and open spaces, but they can den in enclosed areas, too, especially in the winter. Seconding always watching where you put your hands and feet! Don't accidentally sink your hand or foot into a snake hole and you'll generally be a-ok.

I'M SICK UH THESE MUTHAFUCKIN SNAKES IN THIS MUTHAFUCKIN DRAIN

And i only explore with the strobe setting. The standard setting is for squares. People tend to get a little upset with me, but it's the only way to truly live. -Relik
