Very sad. The National Park Service has been meticulously scrubbing away any remains of structures in the park area; the old fallen WCIX tower up near Chekika and the transmitter building have been completely demolished too.
"Hole In The Wall", up the road from there, was closed off for a few months inexplicably with a gate across the road that had U.S. Air Force no trespassing signs on it. Recently I walked out there (the no trespassing signs were gone) and found..... nothing. Someone had cleaned up the old junk that had been out there, but there were no visible changes to it otherwise. I'm guessing they had something on trucks/trailers out there temporarily?
It was called "Hole in the wall" because there was a small building out there of unknown purpose. The building had a hole in the wall where someone had been using it as a shooting target. The hole grew over time until it fell down. Mmmm... the sweet smell of damp concrete. <3
I just found out! I am pissed and satisfied at the same time. This is the first thread of a good location that I got to see before it was destroyed. Still a shame how history is being rewritten every day.
