The Bear is Sad

I've been taking a photography class and after our field trip at Oakland this afternoon, I decided (solo) to go and check out this "most over explored" site. The last time I went, I was also solo and because I'm a lady and there were a could of homeless people, I chickened out and didn't go in.

The problem is that I know this site is going to be demolished in May and I am DYING to get in. All the doors are now chained and new plywood has been placed on any other access point I can find.

Does anyone have any advice or maybe want to meet up for one last hoorah before they tear this place down?

Check out this article. I was incorrect about the timing of everything, but soon this lovely place will be gone. If anyone wants to go for a last visit, PM me, I'd love to join.

The bear is safe. The bear left the school for the first time in a long time. He moved into a temporary home today. Pm me if you want his new location and you can think of a better place for him.

You took the bear and stuffed him in your trunk? Seriously? I get that the place may be torn down and the bear is an icon, but in _MY_ book you don't remove anything from a site, EVER! Not cool dude, not cool.

Usually I would say yes to leaving him. Other explorers were talking about it as well and I agreed with them.

I get that, I really do. I contemplated it myself, somehow hiding the bear for pickup later. But removing even 1 item under any circumstances is not in my moral book for exploration. Take only photos, leave only footprints.

For what it's worth, I've started a thread for our last trip which was also the same day. At least I got some shots of the bear before he was removed.

Your view is the same as mine. The bear is an Atlanta exploring icon and nobody wants to see him die. He is in an abandonment.

Not fucking cool man, I planned a trip to go there this upcoming weekend with the specific purpose of shooting that bear with a camera instead of a phone for the first and last time ever. You just fucked up my whole trip, and for what? To be the cool guy that "saved" the bear? You think you people are the only ones that explore in Atlanta? Unbelievable.

If I didn't do it someone else would have. I'd rather a uer member do it and not an instagrammer. At least we know where the bear is. This place might be sealed next weekend. This location is done.

Someone else is going to tear the place down, so why didn't you just set it on fire?

mutantMandias may cause dizziness, sexual nightmares, and sleep crime. ++++ mutantMandias has to return some videotapes ++++ Do not taunt mutantMandias

mutantMandias is something more than human, more than a computer. mutantMandias is a murderously intelligent, sensually self-programmed, non-being

The bear is gone now. I'm not going to PM you so I can go get it and bring it back to stage my shots. He's no longer part of that location. And I'm not asking you or anyone else to put it back (nor do I think it should be put back). It is what it is.

And you're right, it could be boarded up this weekend... Or maybe it'll get sealed the next. And maybe instagrammers would take it... And maybe they wouldn't. But you did take it, and now its not there for others to shoot.... And that's not speculation... That's fact.

I would also be curious who these horrible instagrammers are? Am I a horrible instagrammer?
