Hell from Vancouver, anybody up for some marine exploring?

Hello UER'ers,

I'm glad the wait time is finally up, I think I've read just about every thread here, and wrote a long post in the meantime.

TL; DR version:

I'm a photo student living on a boat near downtown Vancouver, BC looking to start exploring soon, if anyone's got some free time and wouldn't mind a beginner along.

long version from 3 days of waiting:

I stumbled onto uer.ca by accident, I was reading an article about subway exploration, and a comment lead me here.
I've never really explored local abandoned buildings, but I've done some caving, and explored ruins/abandoned factories and haciendas in other countries.
I always thought about exploring abandoned buildings when I was young, but by high school I was working too much to do anything like that, and I was a bit too cautious back then. I'd like to get involved in exploring as much as I can, as soon as possible. I live on a boat though they don't allow live-aboards here, so at least I'm getting a bit of practice avoiding getting spotted. If anyone wants to come by, I'd be happy to grab a beer/meet up with people here before going exploring. It would give a bit of insurance that I'm not going to expose any locations, since I'd be trusting visitors to keep my location to themselves. I could lose my place if it was public knowledge that I live here.

About me:
I'm in my 20s, a photography student at university(3rd year).
In the past I've worked mostly industrial jobs. I trained as a blacksmith before going to university, and worked in factories starting when I was 14, so I've got lots of equipment/tools around (including a half dozen respirators), as well as a background to understand the chemicals and hazards in those types of places.
Outside of that, I've worked outdoors, and spent a lot of time hiking and camping.
I'm Wilderness 1st aid certified as well.

I figured out a loophole that let me take second year and travel on an old motorbike while staying a full time student. Since getting back, nothing has compared, I've been so bored I stopped shooting. I've just been recycling old work for assignments.
I found some of the photos by members here: Aurelie, bRokEnCHaRacTer, and that amazing series from the nuclear plant I saw, but forgot to save the name of the photographer for. The kind of shot that just electrifies you.
That's the feeling I want to have again when I'm shooting.
On my trip, I slept beside the road, or in abandoned buildings(only with permission) I'm hoping that some of the skills and comfort level that you all have will help me find more places when I can travel again.

I was initially planning to see if anyone else wanted to go to the ferry near Anvil island, a friend told me about boarding it with an ex-BC ferries tech who helped figure out access to everywhere on-board. It seems I'm too late, there's a thread here about it and it's gone to Mexico.

If anyone knows of any other good boats/ships to explore or anywhere where water access might be easiest, we could take the boat. My boat sleeps 3-4 inside if it's an overnight trip, more on deck in the summer and has enough water and propane for a few days away at least. I live near False Creek.

here's a couple pics from my trip:

Welcome, welcome.

Things are pretty quiet this time of year, but if you want to stretch your legs you could always hike out to the Buntzen Powerhouses. They make for some pretty stunning shots.

Or water access, I suppose, though taking a boat through the port is hair-raising.

Presuming the Gmaps data is actually from last summer, which it should be since the QoV isn't moored anymore, the Kraft main block is still standing along with the water treatment facility, some warehouses, and the administration buildings / bunkhouse.

Also the hydro facilities up at Henrietta Lake.

Cool, I'd like to go there, I guess sooner rather than later if they've sold it, I just found out on here they demolished the lodge and cleared out the old machines at the Sooke potholes, that's sad.
I was talking with someone here about other ferries, apparently there was one tied up at the pulp mill as well, since towed. They mentioned another one a lot farther north, but I've not nailed it down yet.
I've got nowhere on finding the Mcbarge, they only knew it had been moved.
They also mentioned a few other boats/barges that might be worth exploring, but access to some of them is a bit dodgy, so I think I'll wait until I've got a bit of experience.

Got to make a couple of repairs this week, but if the weather holds, I might be able to get out there next weekend.

I'll check out the other two as well, thanks!
