Location request?

There's a location in Cherokee County, Georgia that I hope to talk someone into exploring. It's an elementary school that has been abandoned for about a decade. I'd do it myself but I can't walk, so I don't think it would be easy for me to get in/out.

Anyone up for it?

If you can't walk, this might not be the best hobby. Most elevators don't operate in abandoned buildings..

So you're saying that disabled people have no right to enjoy this hobby or to help those who are more capable?

I suggest you stop making fun of my wheelchair. The dried crap in my treads is older than you are.
------

Where is this supposed school you are referring to... And why can't you walk. If I can use a wheelchair... You can surely walk.

And how do you know it's been sitting there for a decade.

Wow, I didn't expect to be made fun of. I just have a stupid disease that makes it hard for me to walk, as in painfully slow and with crutches (although some days lately have been a chair, eventually I may end up in one.) I use to do a little exploring but it's gotten where I'm just not fast enough and too painful now.

It was a school I went to as a child, I just wanted one last look on the inside before they tore it down. I don't know when they will, but the owners (still in the hands of the county school board) just tore down one elementary school and have been trying to tear down others that are no longer of use.

Dude. We're not making fun of you.

I did ask where the school was...
Mainly because I live near the Cherokee line and I thought
I had hit every school possible in that County. At least three times.

And I wasn't kidding about the wheelchair either.
Nor was I kidding about the dried crap.

I live with pain 24 hours a day. It's just a fact of life for me.
There's nothing I can do about it... So I've learned to live with it.

ohhhhhhhhh. crap on myself. twice. that... i was not expecting.

um. hmmmm. ok... a chick you are. so be it. chicks are cool too.

This is a school I've missed... did not know about this site.

I wish that house - wasn't like - right across the street.

but I can do a swing by... check the place out.

...to make sure there's no one like me trying to sneak in. Just saying.

You are more than welcome to attend the party if you wish. I do pick-ups.

I only charge a buck a person. 50 cents if they are nice to the driver.

Admin / Ophie - can you please mark this post as private.

It does un-intentionally pinpoint an unexplored location. My fault.

I edited out the town/street name.

There are two or three houses across the street. You use to could drive/walk around to the back of the school, don't know if has been blocked off or not. The lowest part of the school was a lunchroom, the main level were the classrooms and the far right (if looking straight at the building) was the library (which is where I'm dying to know if it still looks the same, hint, hint.)

There is the gym and office area that is connected by a walk way. It's not a big school.

I think the observation that a person with a physical disability may not be able to fully enjoy certain types of urban exploring has merit.

that's bullshit. I can't sing or play an instrument but I enjoy music. Most of us aren't going to be able to go to Chernobyl, yet we always enjoy it. They may not be able to go out and explore, but they can at least help others with finding locations and enjoy the art that comes out of it. To dismiss based solely on their disabilities is incredibly ignorant.

Wow. No need to be so hostile.

I don't believe anyone said she can't enjoy the hobby at all. They just mentioned that the actual physical exploring aspect will be more difficult. Even she admitted that.
I don't think anyone will disagree that you can enjoy urbexing without exploring yourself. Hell, the majority of my time on here is dedicated to looking at pictures/other people's adventures.
Both of you have valid points, but there's no need to be an asshole about it.

as ignorant as it may sound, i think this "hobby" can be beyond the scope and ability of some- if not most able bodied people. too much shit can happen that we just are not trained or prepared to handle.

i am scared of high places. its not a disability- it means i dont or wont but NOT cant go up places where i can see the ground under my feet. however.... i stepped out of an air plane at 25 thousand feet. i signed a waiver to do that. no place did it ask me if i was afraid of heights or if being in an enclosed space or even if i could fly. but i did it, because i could.

common fucking sense keeps me out of some places, off some stairs or sketchy floors, it keeps me on my toes when i am alone in a building and hear a noise or walk in on 3 pissed off dogs...

to the op: i think you may want to rethink this. if you do choose to go after this, then do it with a few close trusted friends that will help you in and out. but dont be surprised if you dont get a lot of help from an online forum. i wish you the best of luck. keep us posted.

I wasn't going to go (like I said, crutches nearly full time), was hoping to find someone interested in doing it. Someone took me up on my offer but ran into an alarm.

Too bad, but thanks to the person that tried. A couple of years ago I contacted the public information person for the school board, trying to see the place legitimately but was denied. I don't doubt the place will see a bulldozer within this decade, since they're so eager to tear down unused buildings.

Not sure how I could have known it had an alarm, I didn't even know the buildings had power.

As a matter of fact, when I spoke with the public information person at the board of education, one of the reasons she gave for why I couldn't get into the building for pictures was because there was no power, so it would be too dark and unsafe.

I saw the sensor down blinking each time we moved. Since we were not in the main building I wasn't going to chance not hearing an alarm.
