Rip me a new one!

I'm not sure what the cross-posting etiquette here is; I posted these same images in the Northeast forum but also wanted some critiques on them which is why I'm cross posting here. Hope that's okay! I'm continuing to work on my composition and would appreciate any feedback on any of the pictures. There is a link to the full set at the bottom. Thank you and all of your input is highly appreciated!

1 and 3 are looking a tad over exposed. Are you shooting canon? 4 I like the composition but maybe a little more dof. 9 and 10 are your obligatory chair shots but I find them tasteful.

I'm guessing you used super low aperture for #4. I would have liked to see a bit more of that railing in focus, since it's all one object.

I really enjoyed the punctuated bokeh in #4. It looked as if you used an app though, what lens and camera?

I struggled adjusting the exposure on #1 in LR. I felt like taking lowering anymore took away from the photo - but I can always revisit it. #3 I thought was fine exposure-wise, but I'll have to revisit this one as well. I wasn't sure where I was going with #4 it was pretty spontaneous, but some more DoF could definitely make it more interesting.

Yes, I'm shooting Canon T4i w/ Tokina f/2.8 11-16mm.

Thanks for your critique!

f/2.8 - I'm not sure if that would have been possible with this lens at this angle.

Nope no app or post-blurring. Canon T4i w/ Tokina f/2.8 11-16mm.

Your composition is great in most of the pictures (especially 9!). The only thing I would suggest is taming the amount of exposure you have, as it varies widely. Digital cameras aren't very forgiving in high contrast situations, so you've got to meter closer to the highlights, or they will be blown out as in 1, 5, 8, 9, and 10. Like I said, your composition is great, so you've got the eye, you just need to work on managing light from a more technical standpoint. Great set, it looks like is was a fun explore.

No, Ethan, I don't have your lens cap...

Thank you and thanks for the advice, I'll work on my metering! It was a fun explore as always

Agreed! I like your lines, however in the images with objects (bowling pins) you could zoom in a bit and fill the image more with the subject. Still keeping your composition though.

Yup. ALWAYS expose for the highlights, pull the details out of the shadows in post later. There is no information to get out of a blown out highlight.
