I feel your pain dude, it has happen to me on more than one occasion. All you can do is live to fight another day. But what everyone else has said is a good idea. If in a rural location park on the nearest side street where more than a few cars are parked and hoof it. Stay on main road untill you have to sneak in.

Knowing Georgia as I do, not being a local will lose you points. If they see a Florida tag and associate it with you, you're bound to get hassled more. I've done my share of parking in the open (with GA tags) in front of abandonments and blatantly wandering around without consequence. At least try backing in so they just assume you're from the area if you're not.

I wish but this place is truly in the middle of BFN. Most of the local town works at the other mine/processing facility and the downtown of 6 shops, Volunteer fire dept, and post office is all but dead.

Unfortunately landlord issues have caught up with me lately so I have been unable to go back. Although I think I will just park at the Post Office and bike the rest of the way next time.

If you saw where I grew up you'd giggle at that statement. Sounds like a pretty glamourous, bustling city if you ask me. When you do make it back, just throw on some camo pants and you'll fit in in more ways than one!

As others have said, being unseen is probably the best approach in this situation. It seems the place is being watched (unless you just got unlucky timing and some wannabe hero saw you and made sure you left), but most likely he's linked to the abandoned place somehow (owner, friend of owner, etc.) This doesn't seem like a place you'd want to park right in front of...

Predawn if you need to. Hike a couple miles through the woods if you have to. It doesn't matter if you win by an inch or a mile; winning's winning.

Now I wouldn't say being unseen is best, but being deniable.

I'd say your best bet is to appear official if you can, and if you can't, see about getting permission for photography. Drop some bullshit about working for a location scouting company for a movie studio and watch the locals fight over themselves to help you.

Most people are explores at heart and I have in the past asked them about where they thought the best places are. Most of the time they give me info on things that I do not know about. Truth goes a long way when you are on the edge we play at, just be up front and if they will arrest you they will but if you bulls**t them and really tick them of they will every time. Remember few of us will go on to be president or the pope so just deal with it and if you go to court tell the judge the truth and tell him how much fun it is and it will make him think. One last thing, my business is to tear these wonderful old buildings down. If you see signs inside about danger, unsafe floors or the such we put them there and so we stay safe. We have a lot of experience so trust us. I have been in lots of buildings in construction clothes with a hard hat and day-glo vest and everyone thinks oh he is inspecting it.
