Could use some pointers. I'm trying not to edit my photos, so tell me how to make them more interesting without that. Tell me which parts of the composition were good and which I should change.

I feel like there is too much visual clutter in some of your pictures such as #2 and #3. There are too many items in these two that it takes away from what the main focus or subject is and in a way ruins the shot. With this in mind #5 is one of the best shots IMO because the subject is prominent and is simple enough. Also, the composition in the second long exposure looks really good with the fencing.

Lastly I'd recommend checking this for some simple tips:

Remember that the viewers eye generally goes to the brightest part of an image. A lot of your images have really bright areas with no detail that are unimportant and take away from the subject. Mostly in #2, 3, and 4.

#7. What are you photographing?

#8. You should probably be focused on your hand.

Cropping sometimes can be your friend..In number 2 my eyes go to the chair,as the main focus, but there is also too much going on.

Same with photo 4,the bike within the light is cool, but the other stuff around it,particularly the plant in the foreground,is distracting from the shot

Keep taking those photos and I agree that number 5 is very cool

PS I am still learning too

Since most helpful info has already been covered, I sort of feel I have to ask. Why no editing? For me editing is half the experience...not a fan?

I agree. Particularly with digital, post-processing of some kind is pretty essential.
... but hey. Its art. You can do whatever you want.

Some of these are really excellent shots. Props on trying not to edit them, that's definitely a good way to get a lot of practice. However, if you have tools to edit, there's no harm in using them.
IMO it's best to shoot every photo like you don't have the option to edit them (get the best original exposure possible), but then use editing to make it the best possible photo without changing the original intent of the image. i.e. use photoshop for lightening and darkening stuff, fixing weird tints or blurriness, but not to change the colors in the image entirely or crop half the photo into oblivion.

As far as these photos go,1's composition seems a little flat to me. It could us some more contrast. I agree with Sands about 2 and 3 being cluttered.4 and 5 are nice compositions, and I love 6, it's probably my favorite of the set, but I probably would have lightened it a little in photoshop so the viewer got a tiny bit more information about what's going on in the photo. I agree with Adv.pack about 7 and 8.

Your first long exposure has kind of a weak composition and a is a little blurry for me. The second one however, is excellent.

Keep up the good work!

I would say for several you want to push you angle, or point of view, a lot more. Much like in the photo of the batteries. I think I have an idea of your intention with the bike, car and chair, but you're just not creating enough drama with the camera angles. Some of the others, I would say pay attention to white balance and try to get more details out of the shadows. That one shot in the living room/dining room is just begging for some interior lighting! When it comes to long exposures, tripod, tripod, tripod! Having a sharp point to focus on in a long exposure just hooks everything up. I would be interested in knowing what you are shooting with and perhaps a little explanation of what you were trying to achieve in order to get more detailed with the feedback. You're shooting, thats pretty much how you learn. So keep going!

6 is exceptional. Very dark, not just visually, but mentally.

No, Ethan, I don't have your lens cap...
