| | | I'm sorry these are just iPhone photos. My friend helped this shop owner fix a minor electrical problem, so he granted us access to an unused part of his retail store. Up some stairs, it's a half level space, he told us was use as a gambling den and brothel. There was only one light in the place. The newspaper bits were all hanging from the ceiling, used as insulation I guess. I took video too, http://youtu.be/EmJWwH10MVo 1.

| | | Great video, thanks for posting! Did you happen to see what the dates were on the newsprint? 0.25 cents for a can of peaches that's awesome.

| | | You're right Spirit, I googled the McLaughlin Buick model 35, it appears to be from around 1912 or so. There were small porcelain pieces or chips about in little piles on some of the shelves, and some very long chopsticks. David the owner, said they were likely used for some type of game of chance. I presumed it was also a brothel because of the floral wallpaper print, doesn't really suit a gambling den.

| | | I know Chinatown in Victoria has about half a dozen buildings that have been built over and around over the years and only rarely entered for close to 50 at this point, absolutely fascinating stuff. There's a couple spaces in Vancouver but due to the real estate market it's obviously much rarer.
