Hey everyone, just saying hello! I'm relatively new to urban exploration (although I've always had an interest in derelict and abandoned buildings/locations) and really enjoy it, especially when combined with on-site camping/squatting/scavenging (not vandalism, just looking for useful discarded things, I rationalize it as dumpster diving but in a building.) Haven't done a whole lot of searching around for good locations because I'm located in Mill Bay and cannot drive, but I've visited a few of the locations mentioned in the Victoria section of the UE DB.
Quick question, (and someone pipe up if this is the sort of thing I'm not supposed to ask) does anyone know if the Bamberton Cement Factory is still abandoned, or has it been converted into an operational asphalt/road tar producing facility? I don't have access to a vehicle and while the hike out there isn't bad if I know I'll get some kickass photos at the end, its a little far if I'm just going to be greeted by the a thoroughly non-abandoned factory Here's hoping its still there, the google maps images had too much glare to tell and I have a new-to-me Pentax K2 I'm itching to try out. Again, if I've said something I shouldn't have or am asking the wrong type of question (read: could get me in legal sh*t/banned from this site) please let me know so I don't make the same mistake twice.

Greetings to a fellow islander!
Last I heard they were re-opening it. It wouldn't hurt to wander by and see. If they are using it/rebuilding it, then it'll be obvious.
Also - check out Haunted British Columbia on Facebook for some more cool abandoned spots on Van Isle to check out [last edit 6/17/2012 6:38 PM by Forgotten BC - edited 1 times] www.forgottenbc.ca

Thanks, I'll check it out this week and see for myself. Hey, even though it was already mostly destroyed when you took that picture, its still an awesome photo! I'd be totally content if there was even half that left, although I have a sinking feeling its all dust on the wind by now.

Posted by Haunted BC Thanks Ave, let us know how it looks these days. I've heard conflicting stories from a few people now.
Jester - much props to you in your works. Been a fan for a long time, since your original site with photos of Padova.
Thanks haunted, nice to hear.
And I had tried to say, but didn't make it clear, that the place was gone.
It was an amazing site that I really enjoyed exploring. Knowing what it was like was part of my motivation to get down to Lime Oregon while there was still some of it there too. It requires wisdom to understand wisdom: the music is nothing if the audience is deaf.
