Bad luck with sugar mills

So I was checking out a sugarmill today, and had an interesting encounter. My friend and I made it onto the premises, and were making our way towards the entrance when a guy popped his head through a hole in one of the building and told us to clear off, which we did. However he was wearing a headlamp, and no respirator as far as we could see, but might have had a backpack of some sort, and gave off an exploring vibe (though that might very well be all in my head.) Question is, were we dumb asses to leave, and should we have called his bluff? Or was there a legitimate reason to get out of there? Just curious if anyone has any insight into what was going on, so any advice would be appreciated, thanks in advance!

Give me sixty nine years, another season in this hell. It's all sex and death as far as I can tell.

I would have said "And who are you?!" Depending on this random heads answer you could have made a new explorer friend that day, or met the owner of a property you want to explore. It's always worth asking questions if there are no flashing lights or sirens around and you've already been spotted.

gonna make you sweat till you bleed.

Yeah, we were kicking ourselves for not asking him then and there. Solution: go back and make a lot of noise, get caught, ask him questions. Does great western or western sugar cooperative (or whatever the hell its called now) still own any of there old sugar mills? Or have they been seized by the bank?

Edited because I suck at typing.

You should always head in like you own the place. If your guts say to get the fuck out, go with your instincts, but keep replaying what happened in your head.

Sounds like you got startled, and now you realize what you should have done. Go back again later!

I know they still own some of them, not sure all though. (since this is a public thread, I don't wanna get to specific) BUT, I know of one, (which you have been to after seeing your pictures), where they still own the "active" silos across the street and store stuff in a sealed portion of the "abandoned" building... Are you turning 1 year soon? I feel like I remember meeting you a year ago at a meet up, get your FM, then when these things happen, people talk more openly and specifically about what they know in private threads only FMs see.

Thanks for all the advice people, I'm planning on heading back in a couple of days, hoping for better luck this time!

Haha yup, very same, you're observant. I was so concerned with not being seen by the people working on or around the still active part of the building that i forgot to worry about people being inside.

Are you turning 1 year soon? I feel like I remember meeting you a year ago at a meet up, get your FM, then when these things happen, people talk more openly and specifically about what they know in private threads only FMs see.

Sadly not, I'm at about 8 months now, and I've never been to a single meet up. Though, if anyone is up for exploring some mills in the next month, send me a pm!
