There is a thread somewhere on them, but I think most are closed off with a few rumors of some entrances around some historic sites, like the clock tower.

The archived thread is here: http://www.uer.ca/...d=1&threadid=74953

Short summary: The tunnels exist (or at least existed), but it's likely that all access points are gone.

Wouldn't a lot of those doors be locked? Also, would it be possible to get out of the fort without killing yourself? Like is there any points where the drop isn't so high?

I worked with a guy who was seasonal with Parks Canada for a while, according to him, the tunnel that led to the entrance to the DT tunnels is now sealed with concrete with only a small hole large enough for water and sewage pipes to exit the Citadel.

I wonder why they always seal things like that, they could at least just install a locked door. Places like the DT tunnels are an important part of the city's history and should be at least accessible to professional archaeologists. Did you friend happen to mention where the entrance is?

After doing a bit of research, it appears there is still at least one accessible entrance left, in the basement of the Dennis building on the corner of George and Grandville streets. The door, which is still clearly visible is simply locked and within are the ironstone tunnels, which lead from the citadel down towards the harbour. This makes sense with the same tunnel being uncovered on the same street in 1919, and again in 1973.

Has anyone heard about the Dennis building entrance? Anyone tried to access it? The facts I gathered were from 2005, so there's a good chance that the entrance is still fully accessible. Could this be a way in?

He did, he even showed me a photo. It's inside the outer wall, clock tower side. There are fenced off areas that only plumbers and electricians can get inside. Next time I'm talking to him, I'll see if I can't get the photo.
But from what I understand, the DT sections of the tunnels are either collapsed or about to collapse. Purely from buildings being torn down and rebuilt.

Interesting, it would be great if you could get a hold of it again. Where did you hear the tunnels are close to collapse? Last time they were uncovered, which was 1995 the report said that they were still in tact, and there haven't been any major redevelopment projects in that area since the early 90's. I think if you could get access to the Dennis building you could get into what evers left.

I was actually talking to my grandmother about this today. She told me her grandfather and father both worked in Halifax on the roads, down town buildings, Bridges etc.

She did say that during her childhood, her grandfather would tell her about the tunnels that are under Halifax. (From what she could remember) She said he mentioned tunnels under Barrington St. & area. But what surprised me the most is that she mentioned tunnels under the area around the Public Gardens. I wouldn't really take her word for it, She is quite old. But it's some insight on this topic any ways.

I know there is still access oddly enough from the halifax club. Shot a wedding there last year and they showed me. Large metal door on the tunnel, the lady said the key was long lost but behind it rumour was at least the tunnel back to george street.

I also know at one point there was access from the seahorse but the door has been long sealed. Victor says it never went back very far and sort of become the coat check area haha

Designed this map, largely based off tribeachpunk's google map.

That's a decent map to use if any of us ever decide to go looking for entrances.

Thanks guys! I guess the recent findings inspired me a little haha.

I wonder how one would go about getting access from the Halifax Club, I suppose they aren't just going to let anyone in as they must be getting barraged with requests since that article. I think another possible entrance in under parade square, access there might be easier. I don't really buy the hypothesis on what the tunnel was used for as claimed by the Halifax Club guy, My bet is this tunnel links up to the main tunnel George rather than just being a service tunnel for the Halifax Club specifically.
