Abandoned Chlorine Storage Tank.

First off, sorry for the poor quality, I shot this with a phone camera, since my dad oceanified my good one while photographing a turtle, and I'm still waiting for him to pay me back for it so I can buy a new one.

The warm Florida sun setting on the site... And this post.

Hope you enjoyed it, I had a lot of fun showing my sister a few of the UE ropes, she seems to like it, and isn't the kind to rat a person out. So I should be safe in that regard. I also couldn't go into the tank itself, not that I would want to! I could still smell a bit of gas in there, so it's probably just as well.

I'd love some comments on anything I could do better, other than camera quality, remember, I shot this with my phone because my usual camera got dropped in the ocean.

Entry to the rooftop playground is free, if you look up enough to know it's there.

this seems more like a proper exploration post than a photo critique? I feel like it would fit better in your regional forum or something. The photos are good as documentation, considering you were using phone based a point-and-shoot, very nice. I took some of my favorite shots with one, this post just doesnt seem like a critique post!

if you, however, have a couple shots from your repertoire that you want comments on concerning framing, exposure, saturation, etc, post those here and we will constructively criticize away!

nice jon though, keep posting and exploring!

everything.

this really shouldn't have been posted in critique... nothing even slightly stands out whatsoever. when you get your camera, go back and take some pictures then post.

This was more of a documentation than an art form. Nonetheless, a very good documentation.

Yeah, watch out for the uer police. They jump at the chance to tell you the error of your ways. See in their eyes, you not only have failed, but wasted there precious time since you not only put your post in the wrong category, but have no regurgitated close up shots of peeling paint and the same empty hallway. What you need to do is think long and hard before you post something up here and run through a checklist:

1) have I shot these pictures with a camera that is good enough in the eyes of others (Best to have anything between a 1st gen rebel or a 7d, you're pushing it with anything more or less fancy)

2) have I used a wide enough angle lens? Is there enough perspective distortion?

3) do I have enough chromatic aberration and fringing?

4) have I either over or underexposed enough?

5) have I made sure to shoot my images in either auto, or program, perhaps the more advanced TV or AV, but never further than that....like dare I say the devils setting of Manual?

6) have I taken the proper avenues to apply a copious amount of HDR processing to the images?

7) have I applied an un-Godly amount of sharpening that would be akin to the same method I would use if I were buttering a piece of toast?

8) am I showing photographs of the same exact place that hundreds before me have visited and taken the same pictures of?

9) Does my photographs only look decent on the web or on flikr due to the web compression they impose on the file, but if it were to be opened up at full res in photoshop it would highlight its shortcomings?

If you have answered yes to any or all of these questions, then you are on the right track. You are welcome to post and you will have the masses jizzing in their pants over what you put up. But stray from that and your post will be frowned upon.

See when you have others that are coming here hoping to live vicariously through your adventures, and they check out your work and it turns out to be not what they like, they feel let down and then you will get slapped and sent to the corner until you get it right.

This is the critique forum. We are all the UER police and if you want everyone to just say "great shots!" then it probably shouldn't be posted here!

That being said, my critiques are the stupid pop up images and the number of images posted. However, you are posting pictures taken from a cell phone. The only thing to possibly critique would be the compositions. The compositions are not bad but certainly nothing to write home about.

I once applied so much sharpening that Jesus appeared in one of my photos.

When you're at a beginner level at photography, almost every critique anyone will give you basically fixes itself a hell of alot on its own if you just keep shooting.

So don't be too discouraged by the response, but there's a point where your galleries are more a narration of your experience than a visual expression of the place itself. Your photographer's eye naturally develops in a way that you'll change the role of the subject you're shooting...so keep doing what you do and see where it goes. Most critique at this point will be deeply overwhelming.
