Hey guys, I'm passing through Omaha and was wondering if there were any worthwhile abandoned places to explore.

Lots of good places.

Check out North and North-Central Omaha, with everyone's favorite app, Google Earth. LOTS of old industrial buildings that are ripe for the picking, with little security and meth-heads aplenty. Be warned, though; cops around here refuse to even go in those areas which is good for your trip but bad for your, uh, immediate health. >_>

I found a couple of old buildings as well as a strip of 5 or 6 empty houses near an old radar station (from what we could tell, also no longer in use) We went exploring the other day, but didn't go in any of the buildings this time. we plan to go take some photos there with in the week so I will let you know what comes of it.

I do have one worry that there might be something odd going on there due to the random cars and truck parked in the abandoned houses on Google Maps. Dogis says it's owned by a small construction company, presumably to renovate the are and add another fancy house, but there is definitely no construction going on there. Has anyone else been there? It's on 72nd north of State

I enjoy long walks on the beach, romantic, candle-lit dinners, and post-apocalyptic situations.

That's the Omaha Air Force Station. According to wikipedia the radar is still in use by the FAA (https://en.wikiped..._Air_Force_Station).

Some of the buildings are owned by these guys: http://www.laborers1140.org/

I've always wanted to go poke around there, but never have.

I've poked around the old Omaha AFS a couple times back in the 1990s, & remember the union occupying some structures even back then.

It would have been nice to be up there in the 90s less development. There are all sorts of fancy houses in that area now.

Poking around on Douglas County's GIS page (http://www.dcgis.org/dogis/) shows the owner as "Construction Laborers" (http://douglasne.m...ountno=R0138670009).

Google does the rest.

The next lot to the north is some engineering outfit - usually a lot of construction equipment parked there.
