Accident because of unsafe flooring...

hello to all of you

my name is louis, french photographer, living in Tokyo

i wanna tell you my story for your safety...

i visited an old mine by myself,
and i was fully equiped....as a photographer but not as an explorer..(no helmet...)

i had two bags with a nikon D200 / Pentax 6/7 / Fuji F31
tripod manfrotto
MacbookPro
chargers card readers etc...
etc...

i was taking pictures on the mine when some parts of concrete floor broke under my feets and
i felt in a hole of 3 meters with about a meter high of disgusting rotten egg smelling water

i damaged my leg (that i already broke in moto accident few years ago)
and really opened my head badly

i was really bleeding a lot

all my stuff felt in the water....

i was so hurt and i couldn t get out for an hour

AND STUPIDLY I DIDN T TOLD ANYONE I WAS THERE and there was no phone reception

if i had broke my leg, i guess that i wouldn t be here by now...telling you this

i could finaly get out but that s really surviving instinct i guess

then the night was falling (5PM)

I had to found back my way and walk to the next village

i finaly went in hospital at 9pm.

they put 10 points on my head and many bandages everywhere...

i could also , luckily, save my data back in tokyo because i m lucky and my hard drive survived...

i just wanna tell u guys... please say everytime to someone where u go

your projects and the time you may come back .

im not giving any moral speeches or whatever

i just hope that you ll realize as i did , how much a normal situation can go badly in a minute:::

ps/ i know that i ve been stupid... i m hurt... seethirty recomended me to take a helmet next time and i guess i ll do it... please don t send me some messages to tell me that i shouldn t take laptop and i shoud be careful...get equiped etc etc ...

i realized it and i m just happy to be alive now

i took a lesson

take care all of you who read me and may the ruins spirit and best luck be with you...

That's rough! It's stories like this that never make me want to explore alone... but I'm sure I'll still do it if a decent opportunity arises.

15 feet and no injuries!? That would be enough to make me religious and believe in angels and shit.

Glad you lived to tell the tale.

Why did you have a computer with you? Seems like something you'd leave in the car trunk/motel room/home.

Good to hear that you're okay.

I fell off this bridge a while ago and received only a busted ankle:

I've brought a Panasonic Toughbook into caves and whatnot for mapping, or if I planned on taking a ton of pictures and didn't have enough memory cards.
I know a guy who fell off the roof of a building, and fell through the tin roof of the small building attached to the larger one... wish I had a picture of the place.

indeed i had all my stuff with me because i was with a guy before who s not interested at all in ruins...

here in japan people are very sensitive to spirit and ghost

he didn t want to come and let me with all my stuff...

that s the reason

i m impressed to see the other stories here...

we re all lucky

let s think about the one who couldn t tell the story

I was doing surveillance on a condemned neighbourhood from the top of a 15-floor building next to the site. Demolition workers were just sweeping up all the loose asbestos and getting ready to go home. We were planning to climb over a demolished house in the twilight, evde security, and squeeze through a narrow passage between buildings and a metal fence. Anyway, there I was up on the roof of this inhabited building. I leaned on the railing, and the whole thing gave way, nearly sending me plummeting over the edge. The actual UE went safely.

Same in Korea. I was taking pictures of my wife at an abandoned university at night, and she told me "If you ever see anything that might be a ghost in any of your pictures, just delete it and never tell me about it." She's a brave person but the idea of ghosts terrifies her.

This is good though. You can tell people you're a ghost hunter and they'll let you go anywhere.

Glad to hear you're ok bro, it's good that you could get out on your own as well.

Just the other night i was on the roof of dietary at PSS&H here in PA and i damn near fell through the roof due to the large holes that scrappers have caused. It was dark, rainy, and i was smoking and didn't notice till i was right on top of it. I guess the general message is always watch your footing, no matter where you are.
