I live right down the street from this place, and it is indeed being torn down. The rail depot/bailer building is already gone, and the building that houses the boiler is next to go. The city is still undecided on the fate of the watertower. Anyway, since this place was my first ever exploration I figured I would post some of my old pictures. Note that these are intended to be interesting/historically significant, and are NOT art shots.

The watertower. This one is over two years old.

Looking into where the conveyor belt used to be. This is over two years old as well.

Something I found in the rail depot. Old as well.

A little newer, this one was taken in the boiler building.

Here's a few I didn't bother putting on Flickr.

Looks like a great place, sorry to hear you're losing it.

This'd be a cool place to drink.

How much of the complex is being demolished? Wasn't the main building recently renovated?

This is an excerpt for an e-mail I received from Timothy Bachman, the Director of Development Services for the city of Fairfield: "The bailer house where the scrap was bailed and sent out via train has
been leveled. The Boiler House is the next building to come down. It has
various environmental issues and various dangerous conditions within and
adjacent to the building. It will be coming down yet this year.

The fate of the water tower has not been decided. The owner of the
property is still debating keeping it or scraping it. The property is
now served by City water so the tower can be removed with no impact on
the ability to furnish water."

The long flat building (And potentially the water tower) is the only thing that will remain.

Update: I've been invited to the pre-demolition tour of the facility on the 27th. I'll be able to take as many pictures as I want, and the city wants some for the archives as well. I'm excited!

Nice shots. I took a tour of that place in the late 60s or early 70s with my parents.

Thanks. That's pretty sweet, I wish I could have seen it while it was still operating.
