The other day, Bezo and I took a drive up to Richmond to take a look at this well known drain of epic Proportion. This is by far the largest drain that I personally have ever explored. I'm talking massive. Complete with multiple rcp forms (from box to round to horseshoe to coffin), culvert crossovers, brick rooms, and extensive lengths of tunnel. We walked until we reached a height of about 6ft and then turned back. Can't wait to return to this amazing feature of the city, hidden right below the feet of the city dwellers above. The photos were taken with a Sony point and shoot so the photos aren't that amazing however, the location was... and more than worth the 2 hour drive. -Here's what happened

1. Getting "chambered" up for The Magnum

2. Don't Fret... It's only a drain

3. There goes the light

4. Upstream a bit we noticed these fish all around us. We dubbed them "Cave Koi"

5. After passing a series of waterfalls

6. And mineral deposits that resembled some sort of prehistoric coral

7. We arrived at our first horseshoe pipe which went on for quite a ways

8. Until we caught a glimpse of our first junction room head through the darkness

9. We hung out in this large room for a bit of time

10. Playing around with candle light and mediocre cameras

11. Until continuing our journey deeper into the bowels of our capital city

12. Crisscrossing through the different tunnels

13. And investigating every little nook and cranny along the way

14. The line was so long that we found ourselves stopping to rest (and not because of back pain)

15. Walking further into The Magnum we came across evidence of previous explorers

16. And evidence of... previous seafood?

17. Hours after the start of our trip we wound up in this all brick junction room with the pipelines a lot closer in size to the ones we are used to in VB

18. Realizing how long we had been down (and that I had to work in a few hours back home) we started the trek back.

19. Finally, just before the sun went down, we emerged

The ride home was oddly quiet. With both of us reminiscing back upon the day's venture. The silence only broken by the occasional, "I can't believe how big that was." I can honestly say that I recommend The Magnum Drain to any urban explorer that visits Richmond but, BE WARNED... It can easily turn into an all day mission.

That's what she said.

In other news, I adore and miss this drain, and I'm glad you guys had fun.
