No law prohibits carrying a stick. If you shape and polish the stick, it is still a stick. i am done with this now...

I see you did a little research before you posted, since that is a quote someone put up almost 2 years ago on a yahoo answers board about baton carry in Indiana. Weren't so sure of yourself after all huh?

Now, for the truth. Most people know I work with the Sheriff's Office out here in a medical clinic in one of the jails. As such I have great access to legal materials, and lots of cops to question about these things. I brought this up at work when a couple of the guys were talking by my desk. I asked about batons, and then we went online to see your state. We then read up the laws for Indiana, (which are surprisingly similar to some of the laws in Arizona) and they gave me their opinion based on years of experience and the wording in your state's statutes.

If you had the baton concealed, it would be subject to a concealed weapons permit. Indiana recognizes batons as blunt strike force, less lethal, weapons. meaning that they are constructed with the sole purpose of being used as a weapon. They are not "polished sticks" They are for inflicting damage to a person or property, even if that damage is in defense. So you better have a permit if it is concealed. If you were busted trespassing and had it on you, they would charge you with a felony, whether it was concealed or not. The way the law reads, a baton is a strike weapon. You may carry openly, or concealed with a permit. a weapon in possession while committing a crime automatically makes that crime a felony, whether the crime was a misdemeanor or not originally.

Now quit being an idiot, and understand that usually people on here are trying to be helpful. Keep up with your shitty know it all attitude, and your stay here will suck. You do not know everything, and assuming that some guy who makes a stupid fucking quote on yahoo answers comparing a stick to a baton is right is just as stupid.

Blah Blah Blah. Shut up and open the damn door.

Oh and go back to page one and read Vader's link to baton laws. It has some good info. Also, they are NOT legal in all states. They are outright banned without a special permit in at least 8 states that I was able to see in a 3 minute search. and quite a few others have laws that could be interpreted as a ban.

Thanks for supplying me with work conversation with the deputies. They love my discussions about exploring and the laws that could impact my hobby. Plus I think I recruited a new exploring partner for next weekend due to where this conversation led.

It's legal in your state (as far as I can tell) ... don't stoop to the trolls levels. I was just warning you should you chose to travel. I can tell you Chicago has some pretty bullshit knife laws (you can't carry a >2.5" blade, Illinois state is 3") though the cops who stopped us (illegally I might add) were pretty cool.

as far as i know its legal in any state in the USA for its what the cops carry and its not very to heavy its probably like carrying a big mag light if not less.

Negative. You're gonna want to look into that before you carry one around.

In california they're illegal to carry unless you're a cop or a security guard who has a special permit to carry one. Not any security guard can, you have to take a class for it.

It's like a felony to have one in public as a civilian.

Only on solo missions to iffy location, I'll pack pepper spray.

missions? again? really? WTF? ITS NOT A FUCKING MISSION to go walk around somewhere.

See Buttram Manfist's Comic for more info about "missions"

In my first post I said you usually need a permit to carry different weapons depending on the state.... And I was only a dick when you started being ignorant.

I got a new nickname out of this. Apparently I am "mr. office."

And yeah, and please don't expect me to believe that you had a permit the whole time. The way you were defending yourself against everything else, you would have stated you did as soon as it was brought up. All you kept saying was how you couldn't get in trouble for carrying a stick. Others told you that it was a weapon, and you still just kept saying you can't get in trouble for carrying a stick. If you had a permit the whole time, you would not have referred to it in such a way. People that take the time to apply for and get a permit, in my experience, are responsible people that take the time to learn how to be safe with weapons and would never refer to them as "toys." I have helped teach concealed carry classes here in Az. I have never had someone in a class that called their gun or baton, a toy.

But thanks again for being a smart ass once more. I actually posted here in the first place trying to offer some helpful advice to maybe keep another explorer from getting into unneeded trouble.

Fuck it. Do what you want noob. I wash my hands of this thread. Therrin, he is officially your "toy." Do what you want with him. actually he sounds like a young fellow from his posts, maybe Beefcurtain would like to talk to him.

Batons are crap.

Obviously, no one has used one on you that is trained in its use. Hell, even a non-trained individual can break your collarbone with a good strike. Seen many a tough guy go down when a little old lady hits them with an ASP (expandable baton).

What you're carrying is classified as a less-than-lethal weapon there (baton), and I hope you know how to use it properly (swinging at the head is NOT proper in any jurisdiction, and will classify as battery unless they have a lethal weapon and they're making a move on you... and still expect lots of court fees). If you're trespassing and you're attacked, you'd better be able to evaluate in a split second whether you need to use that thing or not, because if you hit someone with that they're not directly threatening your life (vs. a hobo pushing you around telling you to get out of there, and you get scared and hit them cause you're a white boy from the suburbs who thinks that because it's "sold legally" means it's fine), you stand a good chance of being fucked when you serious hurt them. Not to mention being caught carrying that thing while trespassing / Breaking and entering, now you've got concealed weapon AND burglary tools (batons are used to break into windows by cops, so damn sure they're gonna leverage that same thing against you.)

Don't be a dumbass mall ninja. If you're absolutely intent on carrying it, get some proper training on it. My 2 best friends in high school bought collapsible steel batons just like that (26" models), and we could seriously fuck some shit up when we felt like it (pallets, trees, sheets of metal, etc.). Luckily we were intelligent enough to not carry them outside of bedrooms / backyards.

If you want to protect the locations you love to explore, don't talk about them online in public!
If you want to make exploring friends, send people private messages! Meet up in real life! Get off the internet!
Don't try to have a UER e-penis! You won't impress anyone! This especially means you, Minneapolis MN newbies!

Batons? Close the distance and they become useless.

These are legal in most states, and are a very effective weapon for hand to hand combat.

Oh yeah, I forgot, you are just that ninja motherfucker. Again, PUH-lease. You will fall to the dirt just like EVERY other person that a trained individual has used it on and later claim 'police/security guard brutality.' What a joke for you to think you can beat down everyone else out there, what a tool...
