Too bad that those explorers involved can't/shouldn't talk publicly before their (3rd) trial... because there's a lot more to this story than this article presents, but I can say it's not all squeaky clean on what the government & transit is putting forward. :/

If you want to protect the locations you love to explore, don't talk about them online in public!
If you want to make exploring friends, send people private messages! Meet up in real life! Get off the internet!
Don't try to have a UER e-penis! You won't impress anyone! This especially means you, Minneapolis MN newbies!

Last month TfL applied to issue anti-social behaviour orders which would not only stop them undertaking further expeditions and blogging about urban exploration but also prohibit them from carrying equipment that could be used for exploring after dark. Extraordinarily, it also stipulates they should not be allowed to speak to each other for the duration of the order – 10 years.

What the hell? I can almost understand why they wouldn't want them exploring, blogging, or carrying equipment. But they can prohibit them from talking to each other? I wonder how they'd even enforce that. Phone taps? Keyloggers? Mail screening? 24-hour surveillance? I doubt they'd waste the resources.

one UK explorer on a similar (but not related) case has already been sentenced to 5 years no contact with other explorers. If he does, he violates his probation and can go to prison. It's the UK... shit's backasswards over there.

(there were wiretaps on the individuals involved with the case that the OP has posted as well)

London transit seems to think that a nice coverup is in order, apparently not realizing that any one, 10, or 100 other explorers can and probably have mirrored any information that's out there. As my computer security prof once said, the old guard still thinks that security through obscurity is a cost effective alternative to actual time and effort being put into securing things...

Turn off the internet and go play outside.

The problem with security by obscurity is that nothing in the real world is obscure. The people who think it is lack the imagination needed to secure those places, or even to recognize real threats.

Sketchy folk with camera gear aren't the threats if their Flickr page is full of hallway shots, lonely chairs, and lightpainting

There was a time when cops would hire people who had done drugs but stopped for their knowledge. Used them for undercover drug buys and sells.
That ended decades ago, for good reasons.

Most likely no one will get to play mole unless they can qualify for at least a low level security clearance, whatever that is in England, and be employed by the right agency.

Your security measures were inadequate.
How unfortunate for you.

4 UK Urban Explorers Face Orders Not To Talk With Each Other For 10 Years

http://yro.slashdo...other-for-10-years

"Four friends apprehended exploring the disused Aldwych station in London's Underground are faced with an 'anti-social behaviour order' (ASBO) which would forbid them from talking to each other for a full 10 years. The so-called 'Aldwych four,' experienced urban explorers, were discovered in the tunnels under the UK's capital city a few days before last year's royal wedding and the greatly increased security measures in place led to their being interviewed by senior members of the British Transport Police. Nevertheless, once their benign intentions had been established, they were let off with a caution. However, following an accident caused by another, unrelated group of urban explorers in the tunnels a few months later, Transport for London applied to have ASBOs issued to the Aldwych four. These would forbid them from any further expeditions, from blogging or otherwise publicly discussing any exploits, and even from talking with each other for the 10 year duration of the order. One could argue about the ethics of urban exploration, but this nevertheless seems like an astonishingly heavy-handed over-reaction by TfL."

Aldwych is definitely one of the more interesting (and intact) abandoned Tube stations. Though I wouldn't explore it myself due to the high risk level, I can't blame them for wanting to check it out.

Oh good, my slow clap processor made it into this thing.

Fuck that. I'm the one who suggested to the judge that they not be allowed to speak to each other.

I also suggested that they should be forced to visit nomeus, so that they could see the absolute level of depravity that urban exploration can lead to.
