| | | I'm not sure whether this belongs in the rookie forum or not, but I was wondering... I know mentioning UER to LEOs isn't a good idea, but what about when attempting to get permission from the owner to take some photos? Thoughts?

| | | There's no reason you should have to specifically mention this site. If you have to give details about a website or online source, just say "Some exploring website, I'm not sure of the name."

| | | Well let's say for the sake of discussion an owner wants specific information on why exactly you want to take pictures of the building. Let's say they aren't going to just let you in because you're some guy with a flickr page. The location is important to them for one reason or another, and they want to make sure you're part of some sort of "community" or "organization" that has some kind of legit agenda. I mean say what you want about morals or ethics, I know not everyone agrees with them. But for the most part wouldn't you say if you remove trespassing from the equation, that UER is a fairly respectable community? For the most part at least?

Employ another angle. Do not use UER or direct unwanted attention to this site. It has enought already.

1) UER does not have a "legit agenda", we are not a get out of jail free card 2) UER very possibly contains photos of said location that people took without asking the property owner 3) This may well upset the property owner and then LEOs come here 4) We have property owners and have in the past who come on this site to keep tabs on their locations and have threatened/harassed/prosecuted members in the past 5) Learn to social engineer, talk a good game, tell them it's a school project, use your Flickr stream, make friends with the local historic society and name drop those guys, NOT uer.ca 6) The first thing the property owner is going to see on here is likely to involve discussions on what sort of ghillie suit to buy, macros of cats and boobs, and discussion over how many walkie talkies and ATVs to bring 7) The first rule of UER is don't ever use UER as an excuse or justification. For anything.

2) The location I have in mind is locked up pretty tight. I'm doubtful there are any pictures on here, but I can't know for sure. I know some of you are pretty resourceful. 7) This is pretty much all I needed to know. I suppose I'll just have to figure something out for this one.

| | | I don't want to give away too much info on this place, but let's say it's really important to me that I get permission. I don't want to have to resort to lying about a school project or something like that to get in. The historical society thing might work, but it's in a different town and I don't think they'd be patient enough to get in touch with the one where I live. I think my best course of action on this would be to just get some business cards and get my name out there. Maybe even start up a little site of my own. Thanks for the advice though.

Damn I have to leave for work and now I have to wait till morning to see how this plays out.
A mirage is not an optical illusion. It is a real phenomenon, and one can take photographs of it. The interpretation of the image, however, is up to the fantasy of the human mind. |
