Anything around Mankato?
< on 2/8/2012 7:54 PM >

Since I live in Mankato and can't get up to the cities every week to get out and explore I've been trying to see if there's any cave systems around Mankato that anyone knows about. So far I've come up empty handed, the best I could find was records of caves near St. Peter that got destroyed when they built up 169. Anyone know of anything worthwhile in this area?

This'd be a cool place to drink.

There's gotta be some kind of abandonment around there. check out some of the surrounding towns for buildings you'll probably find something worth getting into. not sure how big or epic they'll be but worth a sniff. i'd just start driving around looking for run down stuff. there has to be at least a few buildings worth seeing

Not any caves that I know of but I think there's an awesome corn field.

Taggers got at the corn stalks, but some of the paint is peeling so I guess that evens it out.

Like the others said, look in a sketchy industrial area for abandoned buildings. Look up a storm sewer map of the city and try to find the outfalls. Pop some manholes?

Drive southeast a little ways and you're in cave country for real.

Surprisingly there aren't that many abandoned buildings around town to get into. Either that or Patrick's on 3rd in St. Peter has $1 High Life taps errday.

This'd be a cool place to drink.

I'll have to look into some manholes, never had the gumption to pick one at random and have a go down here.

This'd be a cool place to drink.

Yes.

The MSU steam tunnels are fun. Though, students caught in the steam tunnels are expelled. The steam tunnels at MSU have a window that looks in to the swimming pool. It's neat.

There is an old brewery cave near Mankato, about half the size Yoerg Brewery.

Additionally, there are a few abandoned buildings down by the recycling center.

The area surrounding the Rapidan dam would also be a good place to look, I've only spent a few hours near the dam, but it was promising.

All the treasure are belong to me. We got a slat, for that!

Yeah I knew about the steam tunnels and what not but I'm not too keen on potentially getting expelled though.

This'd be a cool place to drink.

I don't know the current status, but it might worth researching the Seppman Windmill.

Check along the river, there's some bigass drains there.

I think there was a website or facebook page a while back for the "North Mankato Sewer Ninjas" or something, but they must have graduated high school and moved on...

Turn off the internet and go play outside.

Yeah I was going to do some recon along the river, there's a lot of big drains but most of them are covered with rebar. I'll check into that mill too, thanks for the help.

This'd be a cool place to drink.

the drains can be wiggled into....

I'll definitely check out some of the drains along the river, I just need to pick a target.
