I live in the general vicinity and stroll through that place every now and again. Lots of construction/demolition work has been going on around there the past two months. Bridge has been gone for over a week now. I would hate to see that place destroyed, it was one of the first buildings I ever went to. I remember last fall scouting out another silo nearby a certain beverage factory named after the street it resides on... there was construction going on too and there was a small fire burning right by the workers. Smelled horrible. So maybe what you saw was a controlled burn..?
Shitty either way, and sad to hear about olive, that place was gnarly.

| | | | Homeless people have been camping in that area as long as I've been around. It's probably a fire started for warmth that got out of control. If the building wasn't supervised by fire fighters it's probably not a controlled burn. I'm going to miss that skyway. It was one of the vestiges of the old mill hell, where similar conveyor/skywalks criss-crossed between all the grain elevators there.
