so i was at the action area tonight in the building with the front door open in between cshzr and the other big silos at millhell near the campus and when i got to the top there was a lot of smoke. a friend looked inside the chamber where the smoke was coming from and told me she saw burning embers in it. we left immediately and when about 500 ft from the building i was looking at it and saw through a window a big burning ember fall. idk if it's serious or not but someone didnt do good. be careful around there

Oh? You just happened to be in an abandonment where it just HAPPENED to catch on fire? that's AMAZING (and amazingly unlikely)

Why didn't you call anyone?

It'd suck to say "hey I think we just started a fire in this building, you should come put it out", wouldn't it?

Did you happen to see a guy from NorCal running around with tealights, by any chance?

Give a person a match and they'll be warm for a minute, but light them on fire and they'll be warm for the rest of their life. =)

there was arson there last summer. Olive got torched pretty bad on the inside and so did a van parked on the southeast corner of Crushers. Not sure who's doing what, but yea unfortunately that sort of thing is pretty common around there.

There's at least a good possibility that the OP belongs at 5'oclock.

I won't say that it's an impossibility, but given I was in the same room as OP several times in the last week and they seemed like a decent human being I'm going to side with them.

Fair enough.

Though I gotta say I wish I had read a "and then we called the fire department immediately" part in there.

Oh, wait, people are too worried about tresspassing. My bad.

The smoke has been coming out of pignut for days now. Another explorer reported this last friday. He went during the day and actually saw workers there as well. It might be some sort of controlled burn, idk what exactly is going on there. I am pretty sure the FD knows about it though.

Just so ppl know this is not some old wooden abandonment or something that's going to go up in flames. It's a gutted out old grain elevator. Here is a picture looking out of the building that has the smoke right now. It looks very similar to the one across the way in the shot. Not long ago there was a walkway going between the two. No clue what happened to the walkway.

Yeah the bridge came out recently. The burn might be part of some sort prep for more demolition.

That picture was taken on Friday by the explorer who reported the smoke - He waited out the workers and went up to check it out and took this picture. He reported the smoke at this time as well. I was last there on Tuesday - at which point the bridge was missing but there was no sign of smoke or fire.

Even if it isn't an old wooden abandonment, it is still a good idea to report the fire. I think the risk is very minimal for long abandoned grain silos, but for active ones the risk of explosion due to fire and combustible dust is very real.

I take back what I said. They didn't start the fire. It was always burning. Since the world's been turning. they didn't start the fire. No they didn't light it. But they tried to fight it.
