Nice pics and places! What kind of places are the first and second locations? Hospital or a school or something? Just wondering.

Also, what are those columns that are in pic #20? They look very interesting.

Anyway, sorry for all the questions.

Thanks for sharing.

The first 22 shots are taken in 3 separate buildings at 1 location: a TB hospital/home for the aged (not an asylum as everyone thinks it was); a boys school; and the boy's school workshop. I'm not sure what the columns are in 20...other than some that were standing had pipes still attached...so they might have been outside plumbing of some sort.

and ask away...i know i do. That's how we learn!

Awesome, thanks for all the info! And interesting about those columns having pipes. Too weird and interesting at the same time.

well, as i was told by the county admin in charge of the buildings: the building was built in 1914.

The facility had electricity, steam shower baths, sleeping porches and a roof top garden. The facility also had it's own emergency hospital and operating room, with designated quarters for the attendants and officers on the 3rd level.

The Superintendent, George B. Thomas felt that it could be run inexpensively to the county because they would have the residents work the fields and grow their own crops, as well as the farm land for stock farming to off set the costs.

They would grow their food and sell the excess for profit. As always, greed played a factor and abuse and misuse of funds eventually became part of the downfall of the facility, along with the erosion of the facility and lack of funds for repairs was the neglect of the elderly and ill.

Also added in 1915 to the facility was a separate building, called the Training School for Boys, with the intent that they could turn "bad boys into good men" by educating them and training them.

The boy's school, also came into its own problems. By 1939, it was embroiled in it's own scandals, from mistreatment of the boys, misconduct of the staff for having "immoral parties" and murder of a "student" by severe blows to the abdomen, the attending physician attributed the death to meningitis.

I went there this weekend. Seems they've been putting up tall fences with razor wire. We got in but only after a 2 hour walk through the thorn bushes. It was still worth it.

I believe I know what those things are in #20. They appear to be used to secure steam pipes running along the ground leading to the buildings from the maintenance shed. The boilers are no longer there but it all seems to fit. You can see evidence of the steam heaters and such in the buildings as well.

I wouldn't be surprised...when i was contacting people to get a permit to shoot pictures on premises, the sheriff told me the grounds were going to be sealed up because a shooting range was going to be built in the area. So get those pixs in now before it's too late!
