| | | Hi guys, I am new to the forum. I am a Chicago explorer! Some of you may know this, but seems like the popular Brachs Candy Factory in the Austin neighborhood is starting to get noticed by the City. Security and watch is at a all time high. No one has been able to make their way in the past few days/weeks. Pretty sad. Such a cool place! Anyone have any cool experiences or photos from Brachs?! | | | Security started picking up this summer-- first with more aggressive fence-patching, and then with the new (lazy) 24/7 guard. I was there a half-dozen times this fall, but haven't been since October. Has something changed since then? I was always okay with the sealing of the easy entrances and the shitty guard...doesn't keep us out but probably slows the destruction. Brach's is a classic and I have a lot of good memories of the place. [last edit 1/14/2012 11:11 AM by Captain Stormy - edited 1 times]

Kinda vague. Do you have any more information on this? Like Stormy said, if it is just the 24/7 guard and the fence patching that's no bid deal. However if it's something different than that I want to know. Petticat when where we there with YoYo. Brach's has to be my favorite location in Chicago, mostly because of the fact that it's so expansive. I was actually thinking of getting the Brach's seal as a tattoo. EDIT: Petticat, YoYo and myself were there on December 3rd or so...nothing new since then. [last edit 1/20/2012 4:57 AM by JavaSpartan - edited 1 times]

| | | Stopped by today to check it out. All I saw was 2-3 guards in a SUV out front and some patches in the fence. Didn't see anything from my look around

| | | Security has certainly not ramped up. I visit Brach's about every other week and the only security is the one SUV parked at the NW corner. You still have the entire complex to easily enter through... I'm not sure what the fuss is about, but I can assure you that Brach's is as easy to get into as ever.

Actually, it has ramped up. Used to be that obvious holes in the fence would go months before being patched, and there was no guard. Those days are over, but it's certainly not hard to get inside. There's the two fake security vehicles, as well as a real one. Mostly sits by the northwest gate, but does occasionally drive around, and the guard does have a set of rounds, but he never enters the complex itself, not even the railyard. I would not recommend walking around the streets of the complex like you used to be able to do, but yes, the most popular POI is still very easy.

| | | A couple of us got in this past weekend. We were there for about 15 minutes before we heard footsteps on the roof above us then someone making their way through the room we had just been in. It was a silent 4 to 1 vote to leave, so we left. [last edit 4/14/2012 9:12 AM by Battleground - edited 1 times]

| | | I was in there with a group of friends last year. The security was out front by the fence and in the back by the tunnel near the rail road tracks. . http://s70.photobu...Batman%20Hospital/ EDIT: Removed entry details Thank you! [last edit 4/19/2012 11:03 PM by Racinjitter - edited 2 times]

| | | Racinjitter, I know you're new and I know that Brach's is a well-known location with several POEs, but it's pretty frowned upon to post entrance information on here. This is a public board, frequented by taggers, scrappers, and security folk. Even though Brach's has been tagged to shit and scrapped half to shit, there's no need to invite further destruction. If you could edit your post to remove the sentence about your POE, that would be great. Thanks.

| | | Racinjitter, I agree with Stormy on this. I have lost count of the hours I have spent in Brach's, and in the time I have been going have witnessed several upgrades in the security, and would really rather I didn't have to see another

| | | I suggest to not waste your time. Its 5-6 floors of entirely empty space. The only thing thats interesting is the graffiti. If you do go dont stop anywhere nearby. My friends and I stopped at a gas station and very shortly thereafter got pulled over, cuffed, car searched and ids run for being white in a black neighborhood known for high narcotics trafficking.

| | | So sometime in the last few weeks security has changed in a big way. Almost certainly not related to UER but rather to the scrappers and an uptick in violent crime nearby, but I'd just like to ask that people please refrain from discussing anything about this location publicly anymore, just in case it was all the public discussion that caused the changes. I have no way of enforcing this, but I think everyone will understand. If you really need to talk about it, keep it to PMs or private forums. And if you really need to go there, be warned.
