Minors and exploring

I haven't been around here in several months so if a thread has already been created on this, feel free to close this.

What are your thoughts about bringing minors exploring? I'm 23, but there have been several occasions where people have said they would love to go exploring with me, however some of them are under 18. Not much under, say 16-17. I don't want to be responsible/liable if something happens or they get caught, so I basically just ignore them or change the subject when they ask if they can come with me on one of my explorations.

I know some of you have kids of your own or have friends under 18, has anyone had any first hand experience with any issues relating to bringing a minor exploring?

I'm no law expert or anything, but as someone who has younger friends (all of them now are over 18 but they weren't always =P) two phrases always came to mind when we were doing something dangerous/stupid/illegal:

Contribution to the delinquency of a minor

Child endangerment

I know it probably depends a lot on where you are and who it is that may have caught you, I'm just sayin

I think all of us at Chattsplore 1 learned a thing or two about exploring with minors, and their moms.

If you trust them, and it's a low-risk place, document permission from their parents. That's what I did. I took a local to a drain, wasn't concerned with criminal issues, just civil ones.

I wouldn't want to bring a minor to anything beyond a house. I can't really imagine being busted for a house, or for that matter not being let go if caught.

My little brother is 16. He is actually one of the best people to explore with I have ever met. Maybe because I am his sister I find nothing too wrong with it.

But as far as I know, he is responsible for his actions at 16. Minors sneak in abandonments all the time, its one reason they are tagged up and destroyed. Hell, when I was in Ohio, the group I was with ran into a group of minors, ages 13-17. They were there on their own. So, I really think they may be charged with a lesser crime than you, for being a minor, but I don't think you are considered responsible for them.

I may be entirely wrong though.

Keep in mind you're also married to a 17-year-old. <3

I know, babe. And I think you are old enough and responsible enough to have to take responsibilities for your own actions. <3

I took my 4 year old exploring out at Fort Ord, in some of the warehouses, churches, the pool building and some barracks. Nothing seriously dangerous. Gave him his own flashlight. He had a blast, and slept well that night.

To me, it all depends on the site. Are you likely to get caught? Is the building unsafe?

The location of the search button hasn't changed in the past several months, even though for a short while it was bright, festive colors.
